"Google Offers" is in beta
https://www.google.com/offers/t#!subscribe
:pimp:pimp:pimp:pimp:pimp Now in Portland but going into NY area now... Dehhhhhhhhhh Google going after Groupon? lolol |
come on, why they do this to groupon?
|
They need more multi-color bicycles to ride around Google Land.
|
|
google is becoming stupid.
gfy google. |

Groupon's fucked. Google will leverage their insane amount of Maps traffic to get people in. Groupon's sales fleet won't have a chance once all is said and done.

Google is a whore and cheat everyone out of whatever they can. Hitler told his enemies in advance, and even wrote, that you should deliberately lie in one direction, then move in the other. Google says "Don't be evil" and then is immediately evil. |
Easy, because groupon wouldnt sell out to them.

Groupon is probably laughing.
If you look at Google's track record, all their copycat projects fail before they even get out of beta. Google is about a year late on everything they try to copy. This will never get off the ground just like all the other stuff they try to copy. Google is good at PPC, that's it. |
most of google "i want to compete" projects fail after about a year. more non-tech savvy people know about Groupon. So yeah google will get its typical tech fanboyish followers but in the end Groupon will continue to dominate.
|
i say if you have the power. take it

step 1 permanent removal of all competing group coupon sites that advertise on google adwords step 2 insert google offers for all those keywords step 3 win |

groupon gets most of it's traffic from facebook and social sites.
and most google products are a fail anyway. |
Even if Google doesn't take the majority market, I would wager than within 12 months from now, Groupon will be thinking that $6 billion buy out sounded pretty good.
Granted, Google has proven it sucks at copy-cat projects, but nonetheless, I know I wouldn't want them as a competitor. I would have just taken the $6 billion, and lived happily ever after. |
doubt Google will be able to hit Groupon hard...
they never did anything to Facebook or Twitter with their Wave, Buzz or Profiles... |
Google offers is going to rock.
If they index there offers on top its pretty much downhill for groupon |
They are going to shoot themselves in the foot by trying to put everyone out of business. They need to focus on getting better search results, advertising, and free email.
|
I give it a 50/50 chance of succeeding. Google's got a lot of projects that fizzle out after a few months

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh @ all the posters saying groupon is so great...
groupon is down 50% in revenue the last two months.. living social has taken the biggest bite out of them and a few other smaller ones.. google may fail at a lot of the things it tries, but i have a feeling that this one is going to be a winner and even if it does not become the market leader, it will put a serious hurting to all the other coupon sites.. :2 cents: . |
Usually google fails when they try to copy/takeover some other things, but there was a cases when they gained first place, for example free mail market.
|
Fuck google, boycott their fucking products.
|
google won't fail on this. even fizzling to a 5% piece of the pie can still be considered a win.

These group-buying coupons are even less complicated. Really good deal for something that you MIGHT buy? Sold. And they can leverage maps and search to funnel people in. Groupon may have gotten there first but they won't last, especially with many businesses using them feeling they're getting screwed. The whole group buying thing is interesting anyways...group buying is to coupons/deals as exgf is to amateur...just a repackaging of the same ol' thing only slightly different and people are falling for it. |
as in shopping offers? I wonder if they'll include porn offers
|
This Google service is interesting. They offer many different discounts. Google Offers BETA is starting in Portland, Oregon. Get 50% off or more at places you’ll love.
|
google will always fail at social media because their interlinking and sharing of information between accounts is just too intrusive and creepy. see buzz settlement for example.
|
Groupon and others have limited offers and lots of businesses want in, thats why these others that popup are succeeding imo.
So I think there is room for google offers still, but at what point is enough enough with these group offers? How many daily emails with offers do you want? |

The problem with yahoo is they have millions of people using it, so you are stuck getting something like tomsmith244 if you want to use your name, while lots of people I know who use gmail actually have [email protected] It's not a better service than yahoo. |
new trend ;)

Groupon is still the top imho. I've had to get a refund for 3 of the 5 LivingSocial deals I bought because the vendor was scamming the system and they didn't catch it in advance. That has never once happened to me on Groupon with the 30+ deals I've bought. And if it does, I know they have a no questions asked refund policy.
