Let the .xxx price wars begin!

YNOT ? On Friday, a second domain registrar revealed tentative pricing for dot-xxx domains. According to a report at DomainIncite.com, U.K.-based registrar DomainMonster will offer the adults-only domains at prices ranging from U.S. $75 to $300.

they will sell fast, and hopefully go no where... sad that I can't see a way out of buying my own sites domains as a "just in case" this turns into the future home of all porn. Defensive buying will make the .xxx sell like hotcakes, but might be 10 years before the domains have any actual worth.

sell like hot cakes? defensive buying... :upsidedow

Really, how many people do you think have top level adult domains that they have developed or very high traffic, branded domains they are looking to protect? a couple thousand domains/sites at most ? Do you think a program that has 50 - 100 bs cookie cuter sites is going to run out and buy the .xxx for each one at $130 or whatever a pop?

How many you feel forced to buy? 1, 5, 10 ?

as these prices creep up there is going to be less and less domains registered. You people are going to be shocked at how few registrations there is going to be if the prices stay high.

Unless you have a really good 2 keyword domain or a very high traffic site, no one is going to buy your domain anyways, so no point in feeling forced to do it. Like for example bustedonfilm.com, you would be a fool to buy bustedonfilm.xxx no one else is going to be buying .xxx domains like that at $130 a pop. And in the rare event that .xxx is forced on us in the future, you could easily register them then.

FreeHugeMovies 05-13-2011 03:05 PM

I plan on buying ZERO .XXX LTDs

I own 100's and I'll have to protect at least 20 of them, so you figure lets say 10k for webmasters defensive buying, add into it the speculators that would buy either way, this will generate buzz .xxx is gaining popularity and value, a few countries start talking about restricting porn to .xxx and it's a huge deal.

Just my 5 min of thought in the subject.

75 to 300 is a huge gap...a domain is a domain so why the difference?

GetSCORECash 05-13-2011 04:04 PM

Why did they have to use this example:

“Let’s in Sunrise, BigBoobs.com’s owner and BigBoobs.net’s owner both apply and qualify,” he said. “We send just those two parties to a mini-auction. Otherwise, who would we award [the domain] to? What’s fair? Some names have thousands of ‘hopefuls’ applying under the ‘wish list’ basket.”

10K people protecting domains could even be high, but if they did that I doubt they will get more than 10K speculators. With the economy the way it is right now, domainers are having a hard time renewing the decent domains they have right now much less are these guys going to go buy a bunch of $130 .xxx domains. I don't see them buying "ok" .xxx domains. They could renew 10 - 15 of their existing domains they want to keep for the price of one .xxx domain.

I just don't see it happening at these prices. 20K registrations even at $130 a piece is a huge failure and a big ass flop. He would need several hundred thousand registrations to create hype. That isn't going happen.

Feel sorry for you that you going to piss away $2600 for nothing.

Ha, I've taken much bigger risks than that and got nothing, if it ends up being nothing, so be it. Seems like a small amount to avoid a major headache down the road.

marlboroack 05-13-2011 10:32 PM

Dude fuck that, I'm not spending 300 then. I can buy a better .com for 300$.

DBS.US 05-13-2011 10:32 PM

*Don't fall for the marketing hype, .xxx domains are for suckers

So you're okay with throwing away $26,000? ($2600/year for 10 years) Forget .XXX, it's going to be a miserable failure, just like .mobi .com is and will remain king.

LiveDose 05-14-2011 12:35 AM

I hope some morons buy the .xxx extensions of our domains so we can grab the type in traffic from people mistakenly typing in the dot com. This is such a dot con it's not even funny. Just a lazy money grab. Pathetic.

adultzone 05-14-2011 01:54 AM

nah never mind!

Davy 05-14-2011 02:22 AM

They are that expensive? What a scam.
If .XXX had any value, they would sell sex.xxx, not keep it for themselves.
But all you fools go ahead and buy thousands of xxx-domains.

u-Bob 05-14-2011 05:20 AM

I'm not buying any .xxx domains.

btw: the defensive buying thing is a myth....

Klen 05-14-2011 05:23 AM

Only 300$,that is so cheap.

mafia_man 05-14-2011 05:25 AM

Pre-ordered Brazzers.xxx.

cherrylula 05-14-2011 05:45 AM

$75 - $300?? How the hell is that going to work, are they going to price url's differently? that isn't going to work.

I guess if you want to get in on the better names you must be willing to pay some assholes inflated price right off the bat. I just want my .com .xxx's. Probably just one even.

edit: ok duh read the article. lol.. still absorbing my coffeeeeee! bulk pricing, whatdyaknow

During the Sunrise phase, meant to give trademark holders an opportunity to protect their intellectual property, dot-xxx domains may be blocked for $299.99, $289.99 or $249.99 apiece, using the same volume-based sliding scale.
OUCH!... yeah can you even trademark "porn" or "sex" ..... I smell lawyers getting rich(er)

cherrylula 05-14-2011 05:50 AM

wow... those .com and .net owner auction battles for the .xxx are going to make some people more rich too! this is a huge money maker, I can see why they pushed for it so much! protecting kids, yeah suuuuuure. LOL

BlackCrayon 05-14-2011 06:45 AM

LOL 99% of the people aren't going to do any of those options. This is going to be so funny to see it flop. They are playing this so wrong. I am so happy :):winkwink::winkwink::thumbsup:1orglaugh

blackout 05-14-2011 06:53 PM

lol... I remember registering a .cc back in High School... not for porn use obviously.
"Going to be just as much of a presence as .com...." "there are so many websites using .com that most of the domain names are already taken!"

*yawn*
