A Banking Question..... How long should a wire take ?

If you were both with the same bank, business to personal acct ? Chase accts, both in the States.

C H R I S 06-13-2011 09:37 AM

10 seconds

kristin 06-13-2011 09:38 AM

Considering it's Chase, it could have gotten lost in three departments. :)

One day max unless it's a large sum.

sperbonzo 06-13-2011 09:39 AM

Shouldn't be more than one hour.... but 1 day is the absolute max if there is some kind of problem.

.

Agent 488 06-13-2011 09:39 AM

same day or same decade depending.

AaronM 06-13-2011 09:41 AM

I get wires through Chase on a somewhat regular basis and they have always posted the same day or early the next if the wire was initiated late in the day.

Internet User 06-13-2011 09:42 AM

within same bank? instantly.

unless they approve wires manually (which is stupid).

baddog 06-13-2011 09:44 AM

Depends on the time of day and day of week it was initiated. No more than two business days.

alias 06-13-2011 09:44 AM

Same day if sent before 2pm, if sent 2nd day wire [some banks have this like BOA and it is cheaper] next day.

scarlettcontent 06-13-2011 09:46 AM

instant .

Juicy D. Links 06-13-2011 09:58 AM

time it takes to press "send" ehhehehe

J to da F to the K !!!!!!!!!!

Honez 06-13-2011 10:19 AM

If they are both Chase, it should be damn near instant (unless it is a Holiday, weekend). At least that has always been my experience. If it has been more than 48 hours, something is wrong or someone is blowing smoke.

Same here, usually takes 5 bus days from Europe, depending on the country. But I thought it was pretty instant if its in the same bank:2 cents:

If it's a bank wire, even though it was the same bank, it does go through different processing and handling than a direct deposit, but it should still post within 24 hours if it's not the weekend. Then again, is it a nationwide bank or a regional one? That could make a huge difference.

Juicy D. Links 06-13-2011 10:56 AM

i am naked atm

ThatOtherGuy - BANNED FOR LIFE 06-13-2011 10:59 AM

So who failed to pay?

Due 06-13-2011 11:02 AM

Depends if the accounts is "linked" or not.

If the accounts is not linked it is usually done through ACH or Wire.

When I'm sending out ACH payments form my BoA account to other BoA account holders I still have to choose if it's instant, urgent or normal 2 day delivery (and pay the associated fees of course )

Rochard 06-13-2011 11:16 AM

Should be pretty much instant, shouldn't it?

national banks typically acquire regional banks & leave those regional banks infrastructure intact. So it may have the same bank name, but function like a completely different bank in different regions.

96ukssob 06-13-2011 12:34 PM

are you in the same region? i.e. both in northern california? if so, then it should be quicker. I've wired money from B of A from PA to CA and took a day to post

C H R I S 06-13-2011 01:42 PM

They probably didnt send it... which deadbeat customer is it JFK spill the beans....

famous 06-13-2011 02:14 PM

Wires are almost instant anywhere now adays. I can send a wire to China and they always confrim within 24 hours. US to US same back should show same day as long as the sendsent before 3pm (most banks) the wire will go out the same day

B.Barnato 06-13-2011 02:44 PM

It's okay JFK, I am a patient person.

Send it in your own time, just next time don't claim to have sent it.

taken300 06-13-2011 02:49 PM

Within mins... It takes time when in different countries..

2MuchMark 06-13-2011 02:53 PM

US to US usually takes 1 business day or less. US<=>CAN takes about 2 business days excluding weekends of course.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 06-13-2011 02:55 PM

Same Day. 24 hours at the very, very most.

Tom_PM 06-13-2011 02:59 PM

Any real sender can provide a "wire reference number" to you for verification immediately, the funds can then post later.

critical 06-13-2011 07:05 PM

Typically takes 1 to 4 hours unless the Patriot act is in effect!
I suggest leaving the "memo" field blank! They hold wires from
time to time on me that I am sending if they do not understand
the meaning of the memo field! Whoa! Stupid.

critical 06-13-2011 07:17 PM

Here is an example of Patriot Act in the Act:

Funny, I sent a wire to someone and this is what happened:

http://critical.net/iran.jpg

Notice the IRAN SANCTIONS!????
Funny as hell. I sent the money FROM Chase Bank TO Chase Bank in New York.
Can I hear #BankFail?

LOL

AMSCash 06-13-2011 07:18 PM

seconds usually. the banker will receive a response after it is completed. If it is done after hours then the next day.

critical 06-13-2011 07:29 PM

I do on occasion. They are pretty good to me but sometimes I get red in the face with them but oh well, they are better than Wells Fargo by far. :-)

Heard horror stories about them, originally I was with WaMu, till they got bought out by Chase:disgust

Kelli58 06-13-2011 08:09 PM

All US banks, dealing with other US banks have pretty much the same policies. Typically wires initiated before noon are credited the same business day, while anything after noon gets credited on the next business day.

However they can hold your transaction depending on your relationship with your bank. It could be a 24 hold, a 72 hour hold, 5 business days or even 10.

However if they smack a hold on the wire for whatever reason the transaction will still appear in your account online, but you'll see some sort of hold message.

If anyone tells you any different than what I have posted here they are full of poop. There is one guy selling content on GFY that tells a wonderful story - so be careful of scammers like him.

The wire went from Bank of America in CA to his bank in Florida. The wire went out four weeks ago, confirmed by senders bank. Three weeks later he claims the bank contacted him and put a hold on a wire that was processed 3 weeks ago. LOL

No bank goes into your account weeks later and says oh we changed our mind, we decided to put a hold on the wire now instead of when it came in.

Some people are so beyond stupid, they really believe these kind of bullshit stories.

SleazyDream 06-14-2011 12:21 AM

umm, if it's the same bank you don't NEED a wire - you can direct deposit to any account (instantly). why pay wire fees?

most US wires for me take 1-2 days... usually 2 and show up at the end of the second day. (ccbill stuff)... occasionally it takes 3 - when there's a holiday in one country or another that happens....

TidalWave 06-14-2011 12:52 AM

Chase has what they call QuickPay .. just use that, its sort of like a Paypal alternative for Chase account holders.
It clears overnight.
