I have an old friend from a old money Philadelphia banking family that grew up in a huge home/estate. He commented about how annoying it was to never have privacy due to the large staff required for lawn, housekeeping and contractor repairs that constantly need attention. Strangers and employees always within sight or hearing.

I am genuinely not impressed by those sorts of houses. On any level.

I know, bo hoo poor rich kid. But the way he explained it made sense. There were always strangers walking around what should have been a family atmosphere. There was always a project of some sort going on. Big house and big money made for a very impersonal upbringing.

He never had a close relationship with any of his family members, never bothered with traditional family things like birthdays/holidays. Today he lives in a small ranch house in Kailua Hawaii even though he could buy everything in a 2 mile radius.

Then again it might have been the drugs.

Makes you wonder if Fleur de Lys will ever sell. Mariah Carey tried to buy it a few years back and they never reached a deal. Now Ecclestone couldn't reach an agreeable price with them.

this whole affair is what makes this country great. But its also the root of its demise.

Living in a house that big is like driving a truck with 10 foot tall wheels. It's just kinda stupid.

Sounds like a huge liability, for taxes, for upkeep, for attracting crime.

...but the good part is, it might solidify some semblance of F1 hanging around the US for a while, maybe, if we're lucky...as it enters Austin TX next year...

i grew up in a super wealthy area, unfortunately i wasn't one of them, there were pockets of super wealthy estates, then just streets of nice million dollar homes, and a couple of regular apartment buildings with lower middle class people and i lived in a townhouse complex that was middle class. anyway a few of my friends, not best friends, were from super wealthy families and had estates - the times I went to their homes were not fun, wasn't jealous at all, you're afraid to touch anything, afraid you're going to spill something or stain something. even the kids bedrooms sucked, all decorated by some interior designer, one kid had a bedroom like a fucking pirate ship, very cool if you're 6 years old but when i was there he was 16 years old, i almost felt sorry for them. i like a nice homey pig sty myself :)

wouldn't matter if i had huge wealth, the biggest i'd go is 5,000 sq feet - now property size is different, would love a huge property.

Maybe I watch to many movies, but living in a compound like that seems like you might attract organized crime. I can imagine 20 heavily armed ex Russian military fuckers sweeping through without a problem. The rentacops at the gated entry aren't gonna be a problem. I'd probably lose my fingers, toes, eyes, and balls before they realized I don't have a secret vault full of hidden treasures :)

the only reason i can see for a house like that is if you are entertaining a lot with specific guests
