Droid Charge vs. iPhone 4?

I'm getting really sick of the shitty service I have with AT&T. I'm at my house with great service (right now I'm at -62) and I drop or miss calls. I've had my phone replaced twice with AT&T and even a month of credit for complaining... nothing changes except they want me to buy some $300 home device :1orglaugh

Instead, I decided to give the Driod Charge from Verizon a run. I tether my iPhone to my laptop while traveling, and its pretty fucking slow to be honest. The Droid on 4G is insanely fast, so far its been 14mb down and 5mb up!

The lady at Verizon showed me her co-workers phone that customized the shit out of his and looks really cool. I had to jailbreak my iPhone which now looks neat, but eats up memory and freezes constantly.

I'm a bit biased towards the iPhone because I've had one from the OG model, but I think its time to give this old man a new home and come back in a few years when they get back up to speed with everyone else.

I'm going to test drive the Droid Charge for the next 13 days (14 full return policy) and then decide, but I'm hoping this phone is a winner cause so far in 1 day has been pretty sweet.

Anyone else have one?

candyflip 07-05-2011 08:21 PM

It's the Galaxy S with 4G, so for all intents and purposes...I have one. Just the Sprint version with the keyboard.

I love it. It does everything I want as fast as I want it. I won't upgrade until they stop supporting it...well, the phone hacking community that is. I'm pretty sure Sprint has already stopped supporting it. :1orglaugh

I have a Samsung Galaxy S

Here is the problem that I have seen since Android phones came out vs iphone.....

Iphone does a software update maybe 1-2 times per year and things go off without a hitch. With Android phones when a new software version of Android comes out you are fucked and they come out often.

Lots of people forego updates from the carriers and just do it themselves.

Sprint seems to leak stuff, let the community make them work and then they package it up and put it out for everyone else 3-6 months after the update. Their support for these phones has been awful, considering Samsung sold like 15 million of them worldwide.

Apple has the best phones... IMHO

That's about it though.

I was between the HTC Thunderbolt and Droid Charge. My brother has the Thunderbolt and I was going to buy it but the people in the Verizon store said this is a new and better phone. You can add more memory, has better processor and has more RAM

iPhones are so 2010 :2 cents:

I will be getting the new Galaxy S2, but the HTC are pretty sweet phones too

drmadcat 07-05-2011 08:52 PM

i had a galaxy s are runs good on android but after a while stated to lag a lot with noting running on it but i think the s2 is meant to be a better phone

Zorgman 07-05-2011 08:54 PM

The problem with Android is this...

Each phone has different hardware which restricts it from running the latest version of Android. For example; I have a HTC Desire and I have to wait for HTC to make Android 2.2.3 work on their Sence UI which sucks because it came out ages ago but HTC are so fucking slow that they still have not release it. Not only that, some things will not be in the update because the hardware cant run them.

With Iphone you really don't get this unless your phone is 2007 (1st gen model).

I didn't wanna get locked into any contracts and my gf had a DroidX that she wasn't using, so she gave it to me and I got it going and gotta say, I'm VERY impressed with it, but it's old compared to what's out there now, considering the DroidX 2 is already out.

I was thinking about going down and just getting a contract to get an even better phone, but figure I'm probably better off just waiting till something a couple more steps better comes out.

The fucked up thing these days is even if you buy a new phone full price, they still lock you into a contract. My iPhone got smashed so I went to AT&T... no discount, full price and renewed my contract for another year - FUCK THAT.

Went to the apple store, showed them the phone and sold it to me outright for $700

WOW, that's crazy how they still lock you in even without a contract. I went through Verizon and fortunately for me, they didn't make me get one, although, they tried to sell me a new phone to get the contract.

I used to have an Iphone when they first came out through AT&T, then after my contract expired, I just dropped it and went down to a cheap Net 10 prepaid phone because I rarely used it. Now going back to a smart phone, I don't know why I went this long without it, ha ha.

Go droid!

I've had a Moto Droid since the beginning and it's been great. It's totally beat up but the screen is still fine and the phone works great. Show me an iPhone that you can beat up without the screen cracking?

Plus you get Flash on the droid so you can watch porn :thumbsup

Ha ha, yeah, I've spent some money in there to, it is nice how many free apps are in there though :) It's sure a great way to kill time though when you're stuck waiting somewhere.

i have the S2 since a few weeks and it truly rocks. even iPhone users look depressed after trying it out :winkwink:

stach14 07-06-2011 11:03 AM

I've had the Droid X since it came out and have not had any issues with it. It may not be the top of the line option out there. But I have beat the shit out of it and it is still running smooth. No upgrade or hardware issues. Screen is perfect. Love it.

Vendzilla 07-06-2011 11:11 AM

I have the charge, no problems, coming from a blackberry, there was a learning curve, but I keep finding cool features every day

KillerK 07-06-2011 11:25 AM

The droid OS is a piece of shit. Compared to the iPhone.

If you want to have no battery life, shit onscreen keyboard, but customize it with stupid widgets. Both phones you can root

Waiting on 2.3 before I ditch my thunderbolt.

Imortyl Pussycat 07-06-2011 11:32 AM

which Droids are global? i need to upgrade before amsterdam. that's if Verizon even services there. gotta give it to AT&T for having contracts in more countries but i can't use that service where i live.

MrBottomTooth 07-06-2011 11:33 AM

Stupid question, but what happens on the iphone if you come across a site completely done in flash? It just doesn't work? Same for iPad? That's horrible if that's the case.

FiReC 07-06-2011 12:56 PM

just a comment about the iphone.. my old iphone 3g on att sucked bawls bad.. dropped calls, froze etc. Was also jailbroken. I always blamed ATT. But then I got an iphone 4 on att, completely different animal... no dropped calls, so much faster even jailbroken. Now I'm actually happy with their service minus any type of large sporting event.. can't get shit for service when there is a stadium full of people.

martinsc 07-06-2011 01:02 PM

love the android :):)

They say that the Droid 3 which is coming out in the next week or two is rumored to be global.

The Droid 3 DOES have the slide out keyboard, so you'd be better off getting it.

Verizon sells the Droid 2 Global phone. But if the Droid 3 is coming out in a week you might as well get that one.
