PornStarToys 07-12-2011 10:22 AM

Can it print me a mercedes?

seeandsee 07-12-2011 10:30 AM

lol FAKE!!!! They cant print out "mechanism" of a tool jesus, lol!

Ok to make 3d stuff replica of look, but to use it after it, jez

pornguy 07-12-2011 10:33 AM

Hrmm.. I wonder what would happen if we scanned and printed a Woman.

ahh never mind. 2 times the bitching.

adultchatpay 07-12-2011 11:12 AM

nice vidz, anyway it's just a theory.

96ukssob 07-12-2011 11:21 AM

wow.... that's awesome!

Altwebdesign 07-12-2011 11:38 AM

insane!!

Formula one racing technology, they can build engines by tipping a powder into a machine, no idea how it works but they say it will be come common practice in 10-15 years!

DiF0r 07-12-2011 11:41 AM

thumbs up for 3D printer

scarlettcontent 07-12-2011 11:53 AM

awesome!

2intense 07-12-2011 11:57 AM

very nice

thundergasm 07-12-2011 12:03 PM

Pretty damn cool!

alexchechs 07-12-2011 12:08 PM

Stereo Lithography , 3-D printing, has been around since at least 1993. In design school I did a project where they took one of my 3-d designs and created the actual object in resin off a "3-D printer". General Motors has been using this technology for over 10 years to test engine parts. The only difference now is that we are actually really close to have this as a household item. Epson has been working on a below $1000 one that should hit the market in the next 18 months.

Here is one of the commercial leaders in the industry http://www.dimensionprinting.com/

As alexchechs mentioned, this technology has been around for a long time. I used it a couple of years ago for a mainstream product.

Those who think it's fake are simply clueless. :2 cents:

Chosen 07-12-2011 03:27 PM

That's pretty cool :thumbsup

uno 07-12-2011 03:41 PM

The fact that it has moving parts is incredible, but I find it hard to believe it produced internal structures for them without some autocad work. That was probably left on the cutting room floor for several reasons.

prezzz 07-12-2011 03:45 PM

Ya, as cool as it looks, it would be quite hard to recreate the internal parts just by scanning, I suppose...

biskoppen 07-12-2011 06:29 PM

Very fake.. the scanner they use are obviously laser.. so it would only "see" the surfer.. and there's several angles of that wrench that the laser would never reach..

Also, what happened to the hole in the handle.. that got replaced by some sort of wire or something.

bronco67 07-12-2011 06:34 PM

3D printers are great and everything, but they've been around for years.

How was the coma? Are you eating solid foods yet?

Spunky 07-12-2011 06:37 PM

Bet that system cost a few mill, cool shit

TangibleAsset 07-12-2011 06:56 PM

We have a 3D printer in one of the labs at California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo. I've used it before.. not fake.

Obviously.

marlboroack 07-12-2011 07:18 PM

That's hardcore, they can clone me.

marlboroack 07-12-2011 07:21 PM

What the fuck!?!?! I just watched it.

Nothing that would need to be able extensive amounts of heat or friction no, however you would be very surprised how many thing this could replicate AND be useable. There are many different types of polymers, nylons that can handle intense heat and many recipes of different plastics. Some corn based plastics are as hard as aluminum.

PiracyPitbull 07-12-2011 07:47 PM

Not new technology but if there are plans to make a home version there are many possibilities.

It would really depend on not only the machine cost but also if the machine can complete each task in an acceptable time, in addition to the cost of resins and powders.

But, considering there are many items in the home that don't need extreme strength or even internal parts (like crockery for ex) there has to be a market for home use.

of course, Gideon will want to timeshift almost everything he owns (and doesn't own) but, thats another issue.

Konda 07-12-2011 08:10 PM

The moving parts are programmed into the system by engineers. It is just not shown. But there is nothing fake about this video.

cool of the dude to come back and explain how it was fake :thumbsup

Matt 26z 07-12-2011 09:04 PM

Someday (long after we are all dead) these will be in every home and everything you can buy at the store now will be printed out. You think the music piracy fight is dramatic? Imagine product piracy in 300 years.

Mr Pheer 07-12-2011 09:50 PM

Build one yourself for $1300

munki 07-12-2011 09:59 PM

That's pretty sick!

Tickler 07-12-2011 10:15 PM

They've got the material cost down to about $3.00 per cu.in. and I've been discussing with a couple of local companies about setting up a small business for their mold making!

dukat76 07-13-2011 08:57 AM

really cool

At least 10% of us in here was smart enough to see this as a fake ;)

leming 07-13-2011 09:32 AM

cooooool! :)

SexKey Scott 07-13-2011 11:15 AM

Check out Sculpteo they offer these services on a smaller scale. Anyone here use them yet, lmk?

Young 07-13-2011 11:25 AM

My local high school has 3 of these. One of them is almost 10 years old. You feed a CAD drawing into it and it builds it out over a few hours. It can do moving parts and even ball bearings.

This is old.

F-U-Jimmy 07-13-2011 11:55 AM

Its old tech, i used this in my design work in 1997 the finish is not great but its good for prototyping stuff . I even have a patent for a clip i designed in 1998, i used this type of 3D printer to make prototypes for photography and the patent lawyers.
