GFY lawyers, question about forum content.

I got an email from a rappers lawyer asking me to remove a thread from my forum that a member created dissing the rapper about some scandalous shit he did.

Do I have to remove it?

baddog 07-26-2011 02:00 PM

I would say no, but is it true or bullshit? If true, leave it. If b.s. remove it.

Paul Markham 07-26-2011 02:07 PM

Depends how much you want to spend on lawyers.

It's all documented fact.

Then there is no reason to remove it. Invite his client to come post a retraction.

Don't you mean rebuttal?

LAJ 07-26-2011 03:22 PM

Some good legal advice here.

yes I did.

Just because you may be right. Doesn't mean he cant sue into the next century. Especially if he has some lawyer on retainer getting paid whether he has something to do or not.

d-null 07-26-2011 05:15 PM

is that thread making you a lot of money? if not, I would just delete it

I always just delete it and move on, why spend energy and possible headache just to prove a point :2 cents:

I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on TV:thumbsup

:winkwink:

DVTimes 07-26-2011 06:23 PM

those rappers have millions.

i would remove it.

VIXEN ESCORTS 07-26-2011 06:28 PM

Would lawyers just fire off an email ? I'd ask them to send you a signed, mailed letter to confirm before you remove anything.

CyberHustler 07-27-2011 06:20 AM

I'm leaving it up. Turns out the email was fake and I should have known because the producer (not rapper) is known for this type of shenanigans. Just do a search on "Solar" (legendary rapper "Gurus" gay lover/producer).

Okay then :pimp

Hi Dedi,

You really should ask your own lawyer about this. A few years ago, we sued someone over false claims that she made about us, on her own forum.

If you use your own forum and post messages to spread lies then you might be liable. Check out

http://blog.nj.com/jerseyblogs/2009/...sts_too_m.html

and then check out

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...7565Q520110607

Maybe what you should do is check to see if the statements are true yourself, and then for the overall integrity of your forum, remove the posts or at least ask the poster to backup his statements with links.

Good luck!
