icq alternatives?
 

Ok, I tried searching the forums, but was told there was no results. Anywho, I need to get rid of icq, I just updated it, and it's slow as balls. But I need to keep my chat logs. What is a good alternative that you like, that I can import my chat logs to?

Try Miranda - http://www.miranda-im.org/ - it looks like the ICQ and as far as I remember it can use the contact list of ICQ.

Pidgin is good but I don't know if you will be able to import your logs. No ads or bs and runs well though.

I am using skype more, but I need those logs, that's the problem. I actually love the fact that skype takes your chat logs where ever you are. I use it on the phone, or other pcs, works great. ICQ just sucks.

Trillian is great. It supports every messaging protocol I can think of.

Fuck skype. No offline messaging and half of the people on your list will want to voice/video chat instead of typing.

They are both based on libpurple which handles just about every messaging system on the planet so you cover all your bases.

@Babaganoosh Skype has offline messaging... not sure what you mean.

Since when? Admittedly I haven't used it in a couple of years but it didn't support it then.

ICQ was a great kit of software .... back in 1997-2003

THis is 2011 now ... get with the times! I have not once thought "I wish I still had ICQ ..."

ICQ Chat logs can be saved as text files ... put them all in one folder, and you can use the SEARCH function on that folder to find what you need - its lo tech ... but it works!
