I just got into a very heated argument with a former associate/current friend regarding porn shoots. We're both photographers, however he's more involved in the x-rated type stuff than I am.

He uses the same sex toys after each shoot claiming that all he has to do is throw them in the dishwasher and they're fine to re-use. My contention is that he should either buy a new one for each shoot and consider it a cost of doing business, or require the models to bring their own.

What do you guys think?

Dishwasher + antibacterial toy cleaner... and "most" are fine to reuse.

I don't shoot content. However, If they're simple toys why not buy new ones and give the used one to the girl to take home. It's just nasty washing it in the dishwasher to give it to someone else. If every model would provide her own toys, I'd appreciate it. Likewise, if every model provided her own wardrobe, including underwear, I would appreciate that too. As is, most models don't provide enough of either so I have to. If they are so concerned about new stuff then shouldn't they bring it to the shoot and consider it a cost of doing business? Am I supposed to go to the store and buy 3 toys and hope the model is willing to use each of them or is it more reasonable to have a large selection they can choose from and/or allow them to bring their own?

If I were a model, I would not want used toys but on the other hand, I've had enough used toys and underwear stolen from me over the years that it's obvious to me that most models don't give a fuck.

As for cleaning them....We have every model clean the toy before and after she uses it. This means all toys are cleaned twice before the next use.

It depends on the toy. Some materials are porous and shouldn't really be shared, ever. This includes jelly, latex (which are both very popular,) and most other materials. I'm pretty sure TPR and TPE are porous to some degree as well.

I wouldn't recommend reusing any sex toy, but if you had to, I'd say only do that with silicone or glass ones. Neither are porous and can be cleaned really easily.

Glass toys are the best. Some models are allergic to the gummy jelly style toys. Knock on wood; never had a bad experience with solid glass sextoys.

Most toys can be cleaned with anti-bacterial soap and re-used, at least for a while. I shoot several dozens of solos every month so l would shudder to think what my toy-related expenses would be if I used new toys every single scene! I just purchase a few new ones every few months to change it up and keep things fresh.

I'm selling a second hand Fleshlight if anyone is interested. Only used once... I can't be bothered cleaning it.

Firstly, and I say this with all the love and respect I can... 90% of girls still wipe back to front so hygene isn't top of the list for most. Same with going from anal back to vaginal. Eugh. Girls are often more sniffy at wearing previously worn outfits, than they are about warm toys!

No one would buy content featuring the talents own toys. Most have just one dildo, usually a Rampant Rabbit, usually tiny and always grossly stained and dirty. We don't give the girls the toys at the end of the shoot because, shock horror, they are working tomorrow and tomorrow's shooter would then have a choice of TWO toys from her bag, one of them worth 60bucks and brand new!

We run the toys through the dishwasher then get the girl to handwash and anti bac it right before going on set.

For us, where we mostly fly away to shoot toys already end up half filling a suitcase. I just put a large rubber dildo on the scales and it came out at 900g. Each day we shoot a girl with roughly 4 different dildos and on a good trip we'd do shoots of 10 girls. That's 40 toys. Even with an average weight of about half the 900g you are still looking at 20kgs of dildos. That's virtually the entire baggage allowance on some airlines!

Most girls don't care if they're used or not but the odd few do, in which case there's always some new ones available as there's a constant churn of old ones being thrown away and new ones bought. Even with care they only last a few shoots at most - once the rubber is in the slightest bit sticky or porus they get binned. Same with bite marks. Rubbery toys might last 2-3 shoots, solid ones a bit longer.

It's still legal to be used in sex toys, though banned already in kids stuff. Looks really nasty and if it is, a working model spending 3 days a week, 6 hours a day with it in her has got to be at the top level of exposure. Not good.
