Here Comes Apple's Real TV, a Game Changer Like The iphone?

Will Apple change TV and more importantly what we pay for TV on a monthly basis?

"A bold, new Apple TV set would replace today's cable systems, game consoles, and 3D goggles?and launch a war with cable providers"

"The television industry ... pretty much undermines innovation in the sector," Jobs said at the All Things Digital Conference in July 2010. "The only way this is going to change is if you start from scratch, tear up the box, redesign, and get it to the consumer in a way that they want to buy it."

I'll buy for sure.

Sounds great

bronco67 09-15-2011 08:06 PM

That's great. The same people that brainwash millions into buying computers that can't be upgraded or customized, and control every aspect of your experience with it, will now control your TV. I'm sure that'll be great for the idiots that buy into it.

Lol...

Why are you so afraid? Dude - you sound like one of those conspiracy theorists. I've been a PC guy forever and spent hours a day putting up with typical Windows bullshit (crashes, viruses, incompatible drivers), just endless. Since I bought a Mac, I spent more time being productive and less time on hold with Microsoft.

There's no brainwashing. Macs work very well. Fast, elegant, and worth every penny.

Seriously give a Mac a try, and stop being so afraid, grandpa.

If Windows beat you up that badly then you're incompetent. Mac users need constant hand holding and protection from themselves. Don't be angry that some people are ok without that level of supervision.

they can change the game if they can offer a la carte channel pricing to consumers. The public despises being charged 60 bucks a month for 100 channels when they watch only 5 of them. Not sure if they can pull this off. TV producers & cable companies behave like OPEC & a la carte pricing would kill their golden goose.

Serge Litehead 09-16-2011 09:34 AM

if it's not called iTV i'm not buying!

Bladewire 09-16-2011 09:39 AM

Not sure sounds promising but hard to decipher with all the hype

I like a bit of a challenge, and switched from an iphone to an android, after using the android for a couple months now, it's buggy, and not perfect but i would say at par with the iphone.

But I recently went through 3 tablets, the HP, Zoom and thrive, all had issues (some software some hardware) and all 3 went back, there is no reason for a brand new product to have issues. I'm picking up an ipad this weekend because it works.

I want to jump on the apple hater bandwagon, it burns my ass when a company is so proprietary but the fact is they make a superior product.

This is true. I've had -very- few issues with PCs. Most have been hardware problems. Well, at least since I've been older than 14. I got viruses here and there before then.

JP-pornshooter 09-16-2011 10:03 AM

its been out a while i think, from what i hear it works well.

but the public mindset has to be changed, content cannot be delivered free of charge.

PR_Chi 09-16-2011 10:04 AM

I would buy

iamtam 09-16-2011 10:04 AM

apple went down this road before and failed massively (but quietly).

Adam X 09-16-2011 10:14 AM

subscribe to only the channels (networks) you want.. not being forced to buy tiers of channels where you might not watch 90% of the channels. They need to allow for more PPV on the entire spectrum of channels...

Free locals w/HD, PPV Microbilling for everything else like TBS, TNT, BRAVO, VH1, A&E, HBO, SHO, MAX, and all PPV channels of course. Pick and choose. This will save some households money where it may run amok in a house with lots of kids (enter, parental controls)

You must have gotten a bum Thrive. We've had an ASUS Transformer and liked it but sold it and bought a Thrive. The Thrive is the shit. The only issue I have had with it was the browser force closing for no apparent reason. Since I like the dolphin browser better anyway it wasn't really a problem.

I have an ipad2 that I got for testing embedded video but it collects dust most of the time.

96ukssob 09-16-2011 10:22 AM

interesting, but I think the price point will be pretty high and will take consumers a while to make a transition.

kane 09-16-2011 10:44 AM

It all depends on the price, the longevity of the product and how much the content will cost. If it is $3K + to buy and you have to get a new one every couple of years people won't do that. Also if they let you buy individual channels instead of having to pay for a full package deal that is nice unless the channels cost $5 each per month.

If done right at the right price it could be a game changer. I think the public is hungry for the chance to just pay for the few channels that they actually watch, but it all depends on price.

Rochard 09-16-2011 10:55 AM

Apple could destroy the cable companies. Might get interesting.

Welcome to 2011. PC computes no longer crash, don't have issues with drivers, and there is no "typical windows bullshit". I've also never had a virus. I tried to change over to MAC twice, and both times couldn't see any upside to it. The speed was about the same, the prices were double, and I was limited to what software I could use. Even worse, I was limited to Apple products.

GatorB 09-16-2011 11:22 AM

It'll be an overpriced proprietary POS like every other Apple product.

What pisses me off is the people I know who got the HP had no issues same with the thrive, it's like I keep getting the lemons.

I'll see if the ipad 2 is any better, I just need something that works so my wife will stop talking to me and have something to keep her occupied
