We bought the system from PraxAir. It came complete in a steel tube frame with a Miller power source, automatic turntable and light curtains. All we had to do was plug in the 480 and fire it up.

And then it does what?

Looks like an expensive coffee maker to me.

The tank sitting on the fixture is one of our product lines. We have been exporting over 1000 a month to Vietnam all year and we need to double production by the end of this year. The new welding robot is only a part of our tank line expansion.

Mr Pheer 10-12-2011 05:27 PM

Fucking sweet!

And here I thought I was hot shit, building a 3-axis CNC router in my garage.

If you are ever looking for another one,let me know. We have a torchmate 3axis router sitting in the warehouse I would part with, X-48",Y-60" and I think z is around 6". It has a seat of BobCad and the pc controller. Total time on it is less than 200 hours. We mothballed it when we bought a motion master last year.

Next week the team from Panasonic will be here for training. I will ask them to program it to make a cup of coffee. Complete with a dash of creme and 2 lumps of sugar.

Seriously that is a great looking toy :thumbsup

WarChild 10-12-2011 07:14 PM

Many years ago I used to be a Process Engineer for a surface mount assembly line. It was cool even then walking around the Panasonic building in Chicago and checking out some of the custom robots and things they had made up until that point.

I remember one was this enormous hydrolic punch that was set in 6 feet of cement as an anchor. It was used to strike a block of Alluminum one time with so much force that it cold formed a barrel for a millitary helicopter gun.

Surface mount placement and chip shooter machines are pretty cool technology in and of themselves too.

They are oil filters for a variety of applications. We make 6 different sizes. We have filters on large fleets of taxis cabs all the way to heavy earth moving equipment. Prices range from under $200 to over $800.

We met a new customer this summer in Vietnam that owns over 6000 fishing boats and that is one of the reasons we need to increase production. He is putting them on his entire fleet.

That sounds very good.
I always thought it were intersting that you are very successful in your manufacturing business but still did Adult as a hobby (I guess).

More power to you, better to see a new toy thats unique for the GFY crowd than an new Lambo but still like the pics of the cars :D

Hope you are really careful doing that. I know a guy that was selling a specific type of screw made in his shop. One day the Military and the feds take them all into custody saying they are selling weapons. Turns out the screws were being resold to China or something and being used in fighter aircraft.

They walked but not before the loss of the business.

The truth is that I remain in adult as a hobby, with the real point being that in the late 90's when I first was introduced to the internet I saw it as a remarkable way for a regional company to reach out globally with their products. Adult was the only game in town then. I learned almost everything I know about internet sales from the people who were the pioneers in web marketing. Even today, adult is usually ahead of the curve.

The reason a small company from the midwest is now able to sell products worldwide is because of what I learned and applied back in the early 2000's.

We went through that a bit about 6 years ago. We had a tank customer in Saudi Arabia that purchased over 4000 tanks and we did get a visit from a customs inspector.

Like computers hi-tech machine tools have dropped in price over the years. Our first robot was nearly $170k for just the robot and controller. This new unit came complete with everything fully integrated for under $90k

The project engineer in the metals division says about 9 months. I would tend to believe him.
My main business is divided into metals and plastics. Each division is in it's own plant. My tire company is a separate entity but shares space with the plastics division in our larger building.

Not really. The robot will add 2 jobs. 1 person to run it and another in shipping and material handling. If it were easy to put up an ad and hire welders we would. It's nearly impossible to find skilled labor anymore.

It's built on the 3" aluminum extrusion so it can be broken down into a ups package.
I can have the shipping girl check on UPS and common carrier tomorrow if you'd like.

Thanks man but thats a way bigger machine than I need. I'm just routing wing ribs and fuselage formers for R/C jets from depron, plywood, small fiberglass sheets and carbon fiber.
