Lost all my history & most docs on PC...
I am so pissed...
I lost every conversation I have ever had with anyone over the last 10 months... I keep them because, as most of you know, with clients you can go back and see what was last discussed, or what they were interested in etc... sometimes to play with friends... I have never in 9 years of being in this industry lost records (docs) like this... It's mainly my stupid fault... the last back up I did was in April because I was so wrapped up with family, animals, my own business and others, that I just forgot to do a full back up... now everything is wiped out, and the only thing I have are the docs starting back at the beginning of April... and I never backed up my history in IM's and forgot to backup my outlook on my laptop, so it's all gone... :disgust So if any of you need something from me and I don't remember what we last discussed I apologize ahead of time for asking alot more questions than I usually would... :warning I knew there was somone trying to get into my computer because I was being bombarded with Trojan warnings by my anti-virus, but I didn't think it was something or someone wanting to do something this serious... I have never see anything like it... I think I will go cry for a hour... :sadcrying |
That sucks. It's a cautionary take of why backups have to be AUTOMATIC.
They must be automatic, offsite, tested, and there must be snapshots from multiple points in time. Here's a FREE system for Windows that meets the main requirements: http://skyruscor.com/main.php?op=content&o=con&c=15 The creator spent many hours consulting with us to understand the lessons we've learned with Clonebox, which backs up your server. |
You seem to be a disaster zone with computery things.

Would you like me to re-send my penis photos?

Loryn, take the opportunity to set yourself with a better system going forward.
E-mail should all go to Gmail or Google Apps. Autoforward if necessary. Amazon S3 servers as an example cost 14 cents per GB of storage, so having all your docs, family photos and other important stuff is like $1 a month away from being a lot more safe. Their servers have RAID, redundant backups, 24/7 staffing, and they'll literally charge you $0.84 a month if that's what you're using. Nowadays if I lose my OS drive, I'm back up and running within an hour or two and haven't lost much of anything, just settings. |
Sucks.. been there more times than I'd like to admit. Accidentally deleted the wrong site from Analytics a while ago and lost like 2-3 years of stats for one of my main sites.

If the data has not yet been written over you might be able to get it back with something like "GetDataBack". :2 cents:

I'm also going to look into all of what you have just recommended and start on it ASAP... THANK YOU SO MUCH... This won't happen again, well at least if it does, it won't happen this way, I won't lose anything... What's going to to suck is over the next few months little things here and there are going to pop up that I am going to need and won't be able to find and then it's the good ol'feeling of "FUCK THAT'S GONE TOO???" :Oh crap |
