anyone hear of a disease that shrinks the brain?

A friend of a friend was diagnosed with a degenerative brain disease. It is shrinking her brain and has been given 5-8 years to live.

Anybody know what she might have? Sad part is she has 2 daughters that she hasn't told and an ex-husband who just filed for spousal support and awarded 1250 a month. He also does not know of her diagnosis.

My friend has just the opposite. He has "water on the brain". Basically, your body's waste fluid drains into your urinary tract. In his case, such fluid from his brain does not properly drain, causing it to back up, flooding his brain, and causing too much pressure.

They originally told him he had five years to live. Thirty years and 11 brain surgeries later and he's doing fine...

So what you're saying is, his brain is constantly full of piss? Could be worse I suppose...

My cousin died of that. Was healthy and happy one day, in a coma the next and dead in a week. I wish your friend the best.

Outlook (Prognosis)

The disorder quickly and steadily becomes worse. Patients become totally disabled early in the course of the disease.

Pick's disease commonly causes death within 2 - 10 years, usually from infection but sometimes from general failure of the body systems.

Not at all. It's waste fluid. Piss isn't piss until it's filtered through your kidneys. This is just excess fluid in his brain that fails to drain.
