Ok so who doesn't open their door on halloween ??

We didn't buy anything in so we are sitting here with the lights off and only the tv on :1orglaugh

Sucks but halloween isn't as big a deal over here as it is in America, so a lot of people don't bother.

My gf is starting to feel guilty though when she hears someone knocking on the door... :anon:anon

Shhhhhh....

_Richard_ 10-31-2011 12:33 PM

is the door-light off? weird they'd be knocking

Yeah, i guess because the car is parked out the front they have guessed we are in... :helpme

_Richard_ 10-31-2011 12:37 PM

sounds like desperate kids lol.. over here the general rule was not to knock on doors with lights off

They don't get schooled as much on trick or treating in the UK, it's really not as big a deal at all as it is in North America. I remember when I was a kid, we never bothered dressing up apart from for school stuff. Trick or treating was just a big waste of time cos nobody had any sweets! (candy) LOL

My Mom, being Canadian, always had something ready every year though, just in case. Which meant it worked out fine for me and my brothers and sister, cos we always ended up with the spoils when nobody came by LOL

baddog 10-31-2011 12:42 PM

Lights off here. Well, normally. Will see what happens with goodgirl here.

Bryan G 10-31-2011 12:44 PM

Must be a Celtic thing, you cheap bastard!!!

LOL jk

I'm not going home till after 9ish, I will let my GF deal with all the Trick or Treaters LOL.

Spunky 10-31-2011 12:44 PM

I lock the gate and put a sign on the door,I have no more candies left

Tom_PM 10-31-2011 12:44 PM

Kids here rarely come by the house, but I tend to not burn the lights near the door just in case. The first few years I was here I lit the place up well and nobody came, so gave up.

Chris 10-31-2011 12:47 PM

im the house that parents hate
i go all out :D
stocked up at costco

96ukssob 10-31-2011 12:47 PM

the best thing to do is put an empty bucket outside with a sign that says "Please Take One!" right above it. kids will think other kids stole the candy :thumbsup

Prolly find the bucket gets nicked instead.

anexsia 10-31-2011 02:09 PM

Ugh,I got stuck with the Trick 'r Treat duty this year *sigh*. Hard to accomplish shit when you have to go down to the door every other minute to hand out candy and my dog goes fucking nuts.

MaDalton 10-31-2011 02:45 PM

This is a genius idea, I should have disabled my doorbell too! :upsidedow

SykkBoy 10-31-2011 02:52 PM

We live in a heavily trick or treated neighborhood, so when I get home from the office, will have to be ready pretty fast.

I enjoy watching the neighborhood kids in their costumes, especially the little ones.

thickcash_amo 10-31-2011 02:55 PM

Last year (first year in this house) we weren't home so I didn't see if anyone came by, but this year I have a huge bowl of candy ready. I hope I get some kids because I don't want to end up eating all this freaking chocolate!!

Phoenix 10-31-2011 02:59 PM

i love it..i got chocolate bars, sour thingies, rockets, and some mixed bars etc.
i have a kid he is two, and i think he is going to have an awesome night.
it is kind of a big deal around here.

rogueteens 10-31-2011 03:03 PM

Trick or Treat is a bloody pain in the arse, the most stupid import america has ever given us and that includes Mike And Molly.

Soddin' teaching little kids to demand with menaces.

bigluv 10-31-2011 04:05 PM

I'm amazed how many of you guys are humbugs but I guess I really shouldn't be.
I decorate a moderate amount and I give out lots of candy.

You don't suppose the flickering light of the TV is a bit of a giveaway?

I don't have a problem with the kids, it's the annoying 15 year olds ringing the door bell 5-6 times in a row and out of all the trick 'r treaters so far, MOST have been 14-15 years old!

drmadcat 10-31-2011 04:50 PM

nobody calls at my house not really done here

GregE 10-31-2011 04:52 PM

When we were kids we used to make it a point to remember who gave treats and who didn't.

And then come the following year's Mischief Night...

Barefootsies 10-31-2011 04:53 PM

I do not turn on the porch light, and that typically does the trick. No kiddies 4 candy.

:thumbsup

Ross 10-31-2011 05:21 PM

We made up 60 bags of sweets (candy) each with 9 pieces in them and 58 are gone. My fiancee ate one earlier and there is one left for me. Lights are off and we've had at least 5 more knocks at the door. Our neighbourhood is insane for kids. Last year we had about 90 kids we estimated. Defo not like this back home, I used to just put the Dog out in the garden and no one would come near lol. Just as I type this another knock at the door, sounds like there is group of them haha.

BlackCrayon 10-31-2011 05:36 PM

i do it every year. someone has to keep the fun alive for kids. not as many out this year for some reason though. only 45-50 or so when in the past years we've had 60 plus.

barcodes 10-31-2011 05:46 PM

Got stuck with 2 bags of candy. No trick or treaters :(

i'm glad to hear that, a lot of over protective parents tried to ruin trick or treating, too dangerous, they tried to replace it with halloween parties so their little snowflake children wouldn't have to walk the mean streets of suburbia after dark.

ha, i remember trying to stretch it out and trick or treating at 12 or 13 after a junior high Halloween dance - a lot of people let us know they didn't appreciate us ringing their doorbell looking for candy at 10pm and that we were too old.

This is my second Halloween in Canada (actually my third but one was in Toronto, I lived downtown on the 28th floor of my condo building tho) and from what I see, kids are encouraged by parents to go trick or treating. I live in a newer sub division here, all nice houses and a safe neighbourhood. Most of the kids were out with parents or an older sibling. We didn't get many teenagers in groups or anything like that. My Fiancee loves it tho, she decorated the front of our house a little. Pumpkin on the right was my effort lol.

L-Pink 10-31-2011 07:03 PM

I only had a few kids ...... That's why I always buy what I like.

.

sarettah 10-31-2011 07:25 PM

We haven't had as many as usual this year :( Neighborhood is getting older.

This is from a few years back but this is pretty much how it looks, a couple more skeletons, one less ghost ;p

Rochard 10-31-2011 08:03 PM

Funny thing. Our Mexican neighbors put up decorations and their kids came over, but their lights are all off tonight. Very odd.

seeme 11-01-2011 02:24 AM

I never get people at my door, even in the UK no one ever knocked. :disgust

Two years ago my brother installed motion activated sprinklers ...

It's sad but when you have "kids" twice your size knocking on the door then stealing things off the property.. a deterrent has to be put in place ...
Nobody has knocked on the door since ...

Sorry for the little ones but yes.. bad apples do ruin it for the rest ...

LOL thats brilliant.

rowan 11-01-2011 06:10 AM

It's not really a big thing in Australia. I had forgotten it was even halloween until my wife got home and asked if anyone knocked. Nup, not a single kid...

Cherry7 11-01-2011 06:22 AM

Put a note in blood on the door "Come in", left the door slightly open, put out the lights and waited in the kitchen with a knife.

She was more amused at you calling me gay for making a happy pumpkin than not knowing which one was hers :thumbsup

CaptainHowdy 11-01-2011 06:33 AM

I'm on a third world country - it is a continual halloween of children begging on the streets ...

Sophie Delancey 11-01-2011 06:57 AM

I'm just sad we didn't get any trick or treaters. Living in a building without any (to my knowledge) kids can get a bit dull this time of year.

stephane76 11-01-2011 06:58 AM

I bought a huge bag of candy, only 2 kids showed up
And no, i don't live in the Ghetto...
