Only that newer construction will be falling down in a few decades. Buildings like these - proper stone buildings - last last a centuries. Also the 'charm' and 'cosiness' element to them. I'd take a tiny house like this over a modern day house twice/three times as big every time - I don't see what the big deal is with excess space anyway.

In the US though most older forts were made of wood as they mainly were put up in defense of Indians and not full scale invasions from other military forces. The two Spanish era forts are exceptions and around FL, you can find smaller examples of old watch towers or stations built of stone or rock that are still standing today.
