The dictionary pisses me off
If enough people say and write a slang or mis-spelled word, suddenly it ends up in the dictionary.
Example.... It's not "addicting".... it ADDICTIVE. grrr. |
'Addicting' is a word.
An ADDICT who has become ADDICTED to an ADDICTIVE substance did so by using, thus ADDICTING himself to it. Another example might be that pushers generate repeat business by ADDICTING their customers to their product. |
If language didn't evolve everybody would still be saying "Ug" for everything like cavemen.
Since when is addicting and ug not words?
Tuesday.
People use the word wrong, it's not incorrect.
Drugs can be addictive because certain chemicals are addicting. |

A substance has addictive qualities, not addicting qualities. Wouldn't this go back to some basic rules of what type of word is being modified?
addicting is not a word.
The proper use is addictive. |

So you're pissed off that new words are being created? That happens a lot.
I don't believe in grammar, I'm an atheist ...
You can't refudiate these things.
Assdiction is catching up quickly.
Yeah, your right.
The dictionary reports which utterances are being used often enough to be considered 'generally accepted' and nothing more than that. To have the dictionary editiors deciding what 'can be' allowed to be a word and what can not would give them far too much power.
