What do you spend on Christmas presents?

Every year the holiday's come up so fast... and I find myself rushing to buy everything at the last minute and end up spending anywhere from $3500 to $4500 on gifts for family and friends.

How much do you usually spend on gifts during the holidays?

I don't just spent on Christmas, I buy groceries, drop them off at my mom's and even cook for my brothers sometimes. :)

i love you Alex.. and i want some of your cooking. i spend whatever is within my budget this last couple years. i used to do half of it on credit/store cards and way overspend. taking another half of the year to pay that off. after the near collapse of our economy i view things differently and refuse to do anything on credit. if i don't have it, i don't spend it. i don't think it matters to my loved ones how much their gift costs, just that i thought of them.

Why I spend nothing.

Sharky 11-29-2011 10:24 AM

I used to spend a lot more, but in recent years everyone in my family agreed to start buying for the kids only. We all buy Grandma and Grandpa something, but the kids get everything else. We would rather share dinners and family time than spend unnecessary money. Too many people get butt hurt if they spent more on someone than that person spent on them. They lost sight of the meaning of Christmas.

This year my wife is going to bake a special cake for family instead of gifts. The kids will make cards too.

I'll probably spend less than $500 in total...

No gifts except for the tiny ones. The grown up kids get money so they can buy something they like.

I really dont belive in the Christmas thing, where everyone tries to buy affection by material means:2 cents:

We usually host supper for immediate family, even that has ran its course, its just a whole lot of stress for a couple of hours of merriment.:2 cents:

ps. Hope Mrs FUBAR does'nt read this:helpme

Thats a great Xmas gift..

We usually spend about 1200$ on my son and another 1k or so on each other and about 500 on my inlaws..

Also about another 80 to 120 on the homeless kids.

This year the kid wanted to pool so its going to cost.

That's awesome Sharky. We do the same thing, we buy for just the children; and my brother's and our families get together the day after Christmas...we go ice skating and then do a big family dinner. That's our gifts to each other - time together.

I'm from a huge Italian family and all told have 5 children of my own, 13 immediate brothers and sisters (collectively), and 19 nieces and nephews. (IKR! ;->)

But you're so right, time together is what it's all about.

my mother can be happy when she sees me, that alone costs me already $500 in gas and hotel ;)

CurrentlySober 11-29-2011 11:17 AM

You just re-gift?

John-ACWM 11-29-2011 11:27 AM

I didn't start the Christmas buying yet.

SexSearchSuzanne 11-29-2011 11:34 AM

I usually end up spending about $500, but then my family is fairly small. A good portion of that is on my parents since they've spent so much on ME over the years. Friends and more distant family usually get cookies, which reminds me, I should get working on that soon ...

Spunky 11-29-2011 11:38 AM

Nothing major anymore,It's just Mom and she just want's to spend time with me,so I buy her a few bottles of wine and take her out for a nice dinner

That's funny, we were just looking at them in the store on the weekend. Handy looking little tool.

(Not that guys want their tool called "little" but anyways ...)

I wish that's what we did here. But my gf always insists we can't leave anyone out, and ends up going picking shit anyway.

It's crazy when i watch her at the mall saying "well she spends £50 on me, so i need to spend £50 on her".

Crazy, and pointless really... :2 cents:
