Best and quickest point and shoot?

Bought the wife a nice little canon point and shoot (SD780IS) about two years ago that just isn't fast enough and completely sucks in low light so she wants something new. It's about time she upgrades anyway.

Figured I'd ask here since I did before I bought the current one. Need something that shoots HD video as she loves that, something good in low light, slim and something that focuses and shoots fairly quick. She loves how fast my SLR shoots and wants something like that but obviously smaller and more portable - to throw in her purse and go.

I'd like to stay with Canon since I've had a great track record but wouldn't mind checking out a Nikon. Are the newer Sony's worth a shit? I know the old ones were horrible.

i had an old canon PowerShot that kicked ass. it shot really fast and took great pics, can't remember the model. i had to get rid of it because all of the sudden the left side of all images were blurry.

i bought a few models up and it sucked! it was really slow and took horrible pics so i returned it. i now have the S95 and it works great. the S100 looks pretty nice but don't have any experience with it.

the powershot line of canon cameras has a manual mode and is a little quicker, I believe.

the only thing i don't like about the new PowerShots is the flash doesn't always fire in auto mode so you have to shoot in P. it's because they claim to be better in low light but i find the photos look too cool.

I'll have a look at the 95 then and see how it is. Thanks for the info!

My wife and manual do not go together. That's half the point of a point-and-shoot - not having to use manual mode. Having it as an option for me to use would be nice but she'll never use it or understand it.

Yeah, which extends the exposure and causes the blurry shots she's been getting lately. :(

I like that but I don't like the price tag, nor does she really need interchangeable lenses and all that jazz. :winkwink:
