Dell XPS 15z Laptop - Anyone have one?
Time for an upgrade, looking at the XPS 15z Laptop.
Any of you fine pimps have one? Thoughts? Do you do a lot of graphic or other resource intensive stuff? |
Have the XPS 17" and loving it.
I did over pay for a dell but I have no regrets! |
That was my last computer

I seem to be doing much more graphic and video work again...so I need something that Photoshop doesn't crash on after a minute or two... DRIVING ME NUTS but has been a good reminder to save often. |
I'm an apple dork.

I just got one on Friday. This is my first time using it right now, just setting it up. Been on it for an hour or so and loving it so far. It's actually a laptop you can surf/work on.
Loving the mousepad for it, no need for a mouse like I had to with my old Dell XPS laptop. |
No offense, Baddog, but why would anyone buy a DELL in the first place?
I have two DELLs - one for my late mom, one for my daughter in college - and they're both nightmares. I will never by a pre-packaged, corporate computer again. Neither of them came with a Windows Install Disc - That alone makes them 100% useless. |

You can get an amazing deal on Dells, that's pretty much the only advantage I feel they have.
I had a Dell outlet coupon for $200 off, got an i5 2410m quad core, 8gb of ram, 7200rpm 500gb HD, (most laptops only have 5400rpm drives) and a 540M Geforce 1GB dedicated GPU for $529. SHIPPED. If I could find the same deal on any laptop I'd get a Toshiba, but any other laptop with the same build will cost @ least $300 more. I've had my Dell for about 7 months now, no problems. http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B00...?tag=engtip-20 |
We had Toshibas before the Dells and found the Toshibas to run hotter. SSD drives are nice too. Their next day warranty repair has come in handy. I have no real complaints, these are just old now.

Hey Baddog, i have the SSD drive in mine. No lag booting up, multi-tasking or anything. I know these hard drives aren't only available in dells, but it sure makes the experience more enjoyable.

I had one, but it died on me. I replaced it by a Latitude but I just hate the "fake brushed steel" case. When I bought it, I thought it was actual metal, just like my old XPS.
Is this one metal or plastic? |
I bought two (17 and a 15) one for me and one for the woman. Mine broke down after 18 months, hers is still going strong. I haven't bought another laptop, now I do it all on iPad when out of the office.
|
We both have Latitudes now. I want something great for graphics and hd video processing, the latitude has been great for travel and general office work but I find myself doing more graphics and video work right now.

I was looking at the XPS 17, with the i7 2.5, ssd drive, 8 gig of ram, graphic card with 3 gig, so far that is what I thin.k I'm going with....
I also went to http://www.pugetsystems.com/ but I can easily hit 7 k doing dual ssd's, 32 gig ram, etc. |
Just not sure if I want the multi touch screen or full HD. If I go with the 3D can do 16 gig of ram.
