Does anyone own a SodaStream?

Thinking of buying my wife one for christmas but the reviews on this thing are so all over the field, I can't get a read on whether or not it's even worth it.

Anyone have one, and what has your experience been with it?

lucas131 12-12-2011 05:11 PM

for people i know it is just another electricity and space eater

Brent 3dSexCash 12-12-2011 05:13 PM

That's the vibe I'm getting, but then there are people that swear by it

I would REALLY love to cut my home's diet coke budget in half

Electricity?

I have one, it's in the kitchen collecting dust.

Yeah, thought they were powered only by CO2.

It's not good even with mixed drinks, or juices?

Brent 3dSexCash 12-12-2011 05:40 PM

Haha, ok, I told her I was thinking about it...and got an "absolutely not" .... I guess she read the reviews too.

JJump 12-12-2011 05:49 PM

I actually have one and I love it. I use it all the time, but I ONLY use it to make club soda. There's not electricity - and keeping stocked up on CO2 is kind of a pain in the ass, but I use mine all the time, and love it.

I don't think this will cut her budget, its not all that cheap. I use mine all the time, unless Im out of carbonation thing. The best part about it is that you can use how sweet your drink will be. I like half of syrup in my diet coke, so this works perfect for me.

spazlabz 12-12-2011 06:33 PM

never heard of it before but now that I watched the promo video...

I SO WANT ONE!!!

georgeyw 12-12-2011 06:47 PM

Buy some Soda Water and cordial.

Diomed 12-12-2011 06:54 PM

You can stick white wine in there and make it taste like quality champagne.

Just ask Heston Blumenthal.

Enjoy.

BIGTYMER 12-12-2011 07:03 PM

They get you good on the co2 refills.

I just drink water and tea for the most part. I need to save my calories for delicious, fatty foods.

suesheboy 12-12-2011 07:39 PM

I have one in each house. Had them for about 9 years now.

The cost of the supplies is more than double from when I started and I am not too keen on their mixes. Works awesome with fruit juice concentrate or real syrup if you can get your hands on it. I love it for lightly carbonated seltzer.

If you buy one, plan on at least 4 bottles which last a few years.

Alex69 12-12-2011 08:16 PM

my friend got one, and he is still buying soda in supermarket :)

Lace 12-12-2011 08:36 PM

My wife wanted to get me one but I kept telling her no. I don't think it's worth it. I don't drink a lot of soda either so it would just be a huge waste of money for it to collect dust.

ArsewithClass 12-12-2011 08:51 PM

I've had sodastreams in the past... the coke always tastes of the cheap crap but some of the other flavours are alright...

Nice home present, but the wife would probably prefer another pair of earrings or another necklace, you know women mate :winkwink:

Mr Pheer 12-12-2011 11:33 PM

I got one for xmas last year and its gets a lot of use at my house, especially the cream soda and orange soda. The Dr Pete is good as well.

vending_machine 12-13-2011 12:14 AM

I go through a CO2 cannister about every 2 weeks. Absolutely love it. I drink a lot of sparkling water and no longer have to cart stupid bottles or cans home from the store.

v4 media 12-13-2011 01:58 AM

damn takes me back to the 70's, havent had one since, but I remember the syrup costing a fortune. Do you save much money? And yep they did taste a bit funny.

I've got one & personally... well, us fellas love our games machines & the great thing with a ps3, we can always say it's for you darling, when you put on a sloppy dvd & say, look at the clear picture, its blue ray :winkwink:

ottopottomouse 12-13-2011 05:15 AM

Utter waste of space, minging flavours, and the co2 refills work out to cost double the price of no-name carbonated water.

candyflip 12-13-2011 07:49 AM

I have had one for a few years now and love it. Not sure why anyone is saying anything about it wasting electricity, because it doesn't get plugged in. It's just a compressed CO2 tank.

I love to use it with juice.

Phoenix 12-13-2011 07:55 AM

we have one...but havent opened it yet.
i was wanting to make some pineapple juice pop

but the white wine thing sounds good

DamianJ 12-13-2011 07:58 AM

It was all the rage in the UK in the 1970s. Then we realised they were shit.

Sophie Delancey 12-13-2011 08:20 AM

I love this as an idea, but I feel like if I didn't like the flavours, it would feel like a rip-off.

JamesChoopa 12-13-2011 08:22 AM

I bought one... Used it twice and then gave it away. It takes no power and not much counter space. What I didn't like is that ALL the soda flavors tasted like diet. They're definitely missing something in the flavor syrup you add.

If you are a seltzer drinker, you'll like and use this product often. If you're a coke/sprite and similar drinker, save the $100.

halfpint 12-13-2011 08:52 AM

haha i remember soda streams from the 80s I used to love the drinks when my mum used to make them for us

HowlingWulf 12-13-2011 10:05 AM

I have one and use it a lot. However like people said their flavors are hit or miss. I buy powdered mixes at the grocery store and make carbonated lemonade, carbonated fruit punch, etc. which is very good.

The CO2 refills are about $15 which is good for about 60 liters.

With the powdered mixes I buy it at the store on sale it costs me an additional $.20 a liter but if you use their soda flavors it's an additional $.40 a liter.
