I use the spreadsheet and Word equivalent apps and they work fine for me. I pretty much have every aspect of my business laid out on a multi-paged spreadsheet. What isn't working for you?

Fletch XXX 12-12-2011 07:47 PM

been using it for years since it came out and love it.

Tempest 12-12-2011 07:59 PM

Been using it for years and it works well for me..

bignasty 12-12-2011 08:03 PM

Been using it for a couple years as well with no problems.

oscer 12-12-2011 08:10 PM

I really like it ,,, Works well for all our needs !!!

Alex69 12-12-2011 08:13 PM

open office is for poor ppl :)

drewsdesign 12-12-2011 08:14 PM

it's fucking free.. go pay for something else if you don't like it

raymor 12-12-2011 08:15 PM

Works for us. What problem are you having?

kane 12-12-2011 08:27 PM

I used it for a long time an liked it then I got involved with a project where the other people I was working with used Onenote so I needed to get MS Office so I could get it. I had no complaints about Open Office, but now that I am using Office 2010 it makes Open Office look like it is lacking in features, but then again it is free so you can't expect it to be the same.

MrBottomTooth 12-12-2011 08:35 PM

Works OK until you get people sending you files created in newer versions of Word or Excel that have a bunch of macros and crap in them. I find the compatibility is no where near perfect. Although I suppose MS designs their stuff like that on purpose to limit the usefulness of their most popular free competitor.

Im sure they will update it

Lace 12-12-2011 08:36 PM

For being free, you cant complain! I've used it on my laptops for years now.

RonTheDon 12-12-2011 08:46 PM

I used to use OpenOffice - now I use Google Docs.

Google Docs is great when collaborating on files with someone.

2MuchMark 12-12-2011 08:49 PM

Not sure why but it is forever crashing.

I didn't want to admit this before because... well... because it is crashing on my Mac! And my Mac never crashes because Mac's like all Apple products are perfect! PERFECT I TELLZ YA!

BSleazy 12-12-2011 08:49 PM

I started using it on my new laptop. Haven't had any problems.

You keep telling yourself this d00d ...

TBH ... Open Office works much better than Microsoft Office in many respects ... (for example - Microsoft Office is extremely vulnerable to macro exploits which are virtually non-existant in OO ...)

Judging it because it it open source (free - as in beer) software makes no sense whatsoever and proves your idiocy! Linux is open source also, yet 80% of the world's servers are running it .... I guess hosts are all poor people? IDIOT! :disgust

If he can afford it.

We have MS Office on one machine and Open Office on the other 2 and the laptop, never any problems.

facialfreak 12-13-2011 08:34 AM

For the record .... I have no problem affording Office, but have chosen to use Open Office since the viable alternative was available ...

Open Office was/is kinda the HYUNDAI of office suites ... their first couple of offerings were pretty wonky, but in time they have become a world class option as good as any other!

Uninstall Open Office, then:

APPLICATIONS >> UTILITIES >> Disk Utility

Select your HDD, and then select "Repair Disk Permissions"

It sounds like something else has corrupted your disk permissions, and this would cause the crashes you are reporting ..

And then re-install Open Office.

CaptainHowdy 12-13-2011 08:46 AM

So much hate for being just a software ...

Cool, thanks for the tip!

adultchatpay 12-13-2011 10:12 PM

It's free so it sometimes sucks!

LiveDose 12-13-2011 10:26 PM

Open Office is a great program.

Barry-xlovecam 12-14-2011 01:12 AM

Try abiword (word processor) and gnumeric (spreadsheets) they are LINUX programs that are also ported for Windows and Mac -- open source and not so resource intensive like Open Office is.

marlboroack 12-14-2011 05:26 AM

Waste of money yes

CurrentlySober 12-14-2011 05:38 AM

Antonio 12-14-2011 06:10 AM

I've only used the text editor and I have to agree - it sucked donkey's ass, I gave up after a few days and went back to using Word

LatinaCrazy 12-14-2011 06:15 AM

Mark, sorry in advance.

MAC = Fish Food
Open office is great if you don't have to collaborate, if you don't do any power work, if you don't use the data base.

errr maybe not

Klen 12-14-2011 09:42 AM

I could say same for microsoft office,i got free license with my laptop but i deleted it and using open office and gnumeric instead. But again,i rarely use it so i have different priorities when it comes to such software. For example i use gnumeric for tables because it very fast compared to open office calc or microsoft excel which need ages to load for some reason.
