So what's your backup process?

A friend just lost all their shit because they didn't back up, which was a timely reminder to nag everyone here to make sure they are backing up properly.

Common wisdom is the 3-2-1 rule. 3 copies, 2 different types of media, 1 off site.

I have 2 x 2TB drives mirrored using SuperDuper (osx only) that has all my pics and music on. My internal drive is backed up locally to another external drive. I also have a large drop box account I put everything work related on. And I have another mirrored drive of my internal drive I take to a friends about once a month and swop over for the old copy of my data he has.

There are two types of people in this world. Those that have had a hard drive die on them, and those that are going to.

Back up for Xmas, kids.

I work with my laptop and do complete backups to my desktop and to my external disk, all mirror using Cobian Backup.

And do it in two more places with just the most important stuff, one on a server other stays with me inside my cellphone (miniSD card).

All that shit inside truecript containers, so no motherfuck who hacks my server or steal my cellphone will have access to my stuff. :2 cents:

Remember the rules of backups. Backups must be:
Automatic
Offsite
Tested
Rotated
Quickly restoreable

Those are the criteria I believe. We have people saying they wish they had Clonebox before because:

Their backups weren't automatic, and therefore hadn't been done recently.
Their backups weren't offsite and so melted in the same fire that destroyed the main copy.
Their backups weren't tested, and turned out to be broken.
Their backups weren't rotated, so the backup ran AFTER the hack, leaving them with two copies of crap.
Their backups were on tape and would take days to restore.

how much is acronis true image for individual users? i went to their site and their prices seem expensive unless im missing something.
