Honestly, that bothers the hell out of me too. The hosting's rock solid, the server's beefy as hell and cache is turned on. It's a lot of data to watch and I'm always trying to track down what's causing it. I was actually looking into it in more depth this past week and will be doing so this x-mas. Sorry about the latency, though.

Looks like it might be a cache configuration problem. The first byte time for a lot of blogs are averaging around 40s for me..
