As an American, what foreign shows am I missing?

I absolutely loved the following:
Luther(UK)
Misfits(UK)
ReGenesis(Canada)
The Fades(UK)
Being Human(UK, the american version is kind of shit so far)
The Listener(Canada, but it wasn't great)
Lost Girl(Canada)
Life on Mars(UK)
Ashes to Ashes(UK, but it wasn't as good as life on mars)
Doctor Who(UK)
Torchwood(was UK, but they kind of fucked up this past season on STARZ)

I know I must be missing a lot of great TV here, so someone fill me in.

I've heard Charlie Jade is pretty good(South Africa)

I also enjoyed the Aussie Wilfred after watching the American adaptation with the same actor as the dog.

Torrents haven't hit the USA yet?

Torrents don't tell you anything about a program's quality.

crockett 12-29-2011 03:00 AM

Is there actually an on going series for Life on Mars from the UK? I know it aired in the US but was only for 1 season if I'm not mistaken.

iggysick 12-29-2011 03:00 AM

it was 2 series in the UK i think and then they followed it up with 2 series(seasons) of Ashes to Ashes which took place in the 80s.

Also, the brits do things differently with tv. They do 6-12 episodes of a show a year and usually have that show run 2-3 years max with a few exceptions like Doctor Who.

:1orglaugh Does croatia even show anything other than half decent movies from America in the mid 1980's?

uno 12-29-2011 03:15 AM

I also like Primeval and am psyched for the canadian offshoot.

rogueteens 12-29-2011 04:41 AM

I agree with you 100% about Torchwood, i was a fan of the show but only watched 20 mins tops of the latest series.

Sherlock is worth watching BTW :) and if it gets shown over there, Whitechapel.

The IT crowd is brilliant... But season two and three are much better than one... So stick with it.

ottopottomouse 12-29-2011 11:42 AM

Mad Dogs 2010 - it's short though, only 4 episodes.

bronco67 12-29-2011 11:58 AM

Please guys, go buy the shows on Amazon or iTunes.

uno 12-30-2011 03:16 AM

Anything similar to ReGenesis out there? I really really liked that show.

Bryan G 12-30-2011 09:35 AM

SPOOKS!

All time best show for me...they ended their 10 season run this year.

sheken 12-30-2011 06:00 PM

Top Gear .. the UK version. Really well done and entertaining

RonTheDon 12-30-2011 06:06 PM

Survivors

It's a pretty good show about a flu that struck and took out like 98% of the population. Almost has the feel of a zombie show like The Walking Dead, but no zombies.

A UK colleague has suggested this to me also.

I'm leaning more towards sci-fi ish stuff which has led me to a show called Charlie Jade that only lasted a season (20 eps) that I'll give a shot. Apparently its from 2005ish and is about a PI who jumps between 3 parallel universes. It seems a bit out there, but eh.

Survivors sounds like something that I'll probably give a shot too.

Try checking out The Take featuring the brilliant Tom Hardy. A Martina Cole book that was serialised into a three part drama for Sky One.

uno 12-30-2011 08:42 PM

Is there anything good coming out of Australia? Aside from Wilfred? I saw that on IFC and the american remake featuring the same actor on FX.

Also on IFC, and I assume some UK channel: The increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margeret(I could be off on the title) is pretty good. I love David Cross.

So it's just piracy of porn that is bad and tv shows are cool to steal?

CarlosTheGaucho 12-31-2011 05:23 AM

Two shows I'd recommend:

The Kingdom from Lars von Trier

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108906/

Cracker with Robbie Coltrane

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105977/

Both among my all time favorite list.

Give it a miss, it's shit :2 cents:

Check out a BBC show called The Shadow Line, it's a 7 part Crime Thriller.

It's as good as, if not better than Luther,

Also check out a BBC show called Murphys Law (Seasons 3 - 5) I'd say it's even better than Luther.

Spooks is excellent up until around Season 6, then the standard drops significantly.

I'll post more in the New Year :pimp
