Actually, we do have porches. Not as big as the ones in the USA, but the front step and entry into a house, is called a porch

But they're right next to the streets, no? Not enough privacy to take a dump...

Not nessicerially right next to the street -Plenty of places have there own gardens and are set back from the road...

Normally, when you enter a house in the UK, you have the 'Front Door' which leads to a small space, and then another door that takes you inside the living area of the house...

Its that 'in between' bit, we call a porch.
