So 2011 takes one more nasty poke at me... with a car accident :(

I haven't had one in about 20 years or more. And this one was about the lamest one I've ever heard of. I was coming out of the grocery store parking lot, I turned left onto the cross street and there was a minivan in the lane accross the street waiting to go. As I drove past the guy he simply drove right into me, plowing and scraping my passenger side with his front bumper. I was doing maybe 10 km/hr (as I'd just turned to get going) and he was likely doing less than that (because he was starting from a dead stop).

I have no idea how he didn't see me, but as it turns out it was a really old guy, looked to be in his late 70's or older, and he had on a pair of massively big dark shades that fit over his regular glasses. He said the sun was in his eyes and he "didn't see me".

Good thing it wasn't a couple of kids walking past instead of my car I guess.

So in January I have the fun of getting damage assessed, collision repair, arranging a rental car, all at the other guy's expense of course since he was at fault 100% (I have a witness).

2011 has been a shit year really. All I can hope is that 2012 is better, apart from that whole end of the world thing that is. :D

Btw I wish everyone here a happy New Year, and a great New Year's Eve tomorrow night.

Don't drink and drive.

Glad you're ok and 2012 has to be a better year for everyone.

:)

Jarmusch 12-30-2011 03:39 PM

That's not a good way to start the new year and seems like a lot of damage for such low speed, but at least no one got hurt. Good luck with that.

ottopottomouse 12-30-2011 04:11 PM

those massive shades have quite thick arms on and are like wearing horse blinkers - no peripheral vision.

Scott McD 12-30-2011 06:09 PM

Shitty luck, and not a good way to end the year.

We went through all that a few weeks back. Some dumb bitch ran into the back of my gf's car, and the car got written off altogether. So weeks and weeks later she finally has a new car, and the money has all been sorted out. Fucking pain in the ass though...

Spunky 12-30-2011 06:27 PM

I'd get a lawyer and sue his ass for emotional stress.I can see the nightmares and migraines now

Jez, i had one too today, classic clash from back, some guy didt take a break on time, i am ok, he is ok, he offered to pay for damage in cash 100 euros for my back bumper, so we finished all in 10 minutes...

baddog 12-30-2011 06:51 PM

Sorry CD, at least 2012 has to start better.

That's what I'm hoping for.

(I hope 2012 ends better too, as in than what's predicted)

sucks, happy new year though!!

Matyko 12-31-2011 12:36 AM

:(

The only car accident i ever had was with a 82 yr old guy in a very similar situation. the guy was from the HQ of the organization of hungarian handicapped people and had a driving licence with 49 more years to expire. Not Kidding!!! Half year later SoutParkStudios released that episode in which they make fun of old ppl driving cars. i was so shocked i emailed my insurance company about the case asking to cancel driving licenses of the elder ones.

fitzmulti 12-31-2011 12:41 AM

Good grief! Sorry to hear that! Glad you are okay, though!

This gives me an idea...

I was plowed by a speeding car while I was on my scooter about 2 1/2 months ago. Broke both of my feet, messed my knees up, LOTS of road rash, and still limping around a bit. But I'm just lucky and happy to be alive, so no complaints.

Don't blame anything on a year, just blame it on an accident.

Like 2011 and every year before that, 2012 will be what you make it.

Barry-xlovecam 12-31-2011 07:50 AM

I had no accidents for 30 years and messed my car up a few years ago. The odds catch up with you I guess ... still sucks ...

Elli 12-31-2011 01:01 PM

Yikes, glad you're ok! Good thing it was just a few cars that got damaged.

I was rear-ended three times by the same old lady who was behind me at a red light. Her foot kept slipping off the brake (?) and her car just idled right into my bumper. No big damage, but damn annoying!

If this had been the only negative thing that happened to me this year I'd happily agree with that, but sadly it wasn't. When a bunch of good things happen to someone in the same year most people say that was a good year, this is no different, just in the reverse. If any of it were things I had control over I would again happily agree with you. I'm simply saying that all in all this year's been a pretty bad one as compared to most others, for me.

Sorry to hear about your accident, it was obviously far more severe than mine. Mine felt more like getting t-boned while riding the bumper cars at the fair, as the road was slick and slushy so when he hit me I mostly just slid a few feet sideways and then stopped. Not enough speed for whiplash or anything. It's more about the annoyance in this case rather than thanking anyone's lucky stars that no one was hurt... except for that part I already said about being thankful it wasn't someone or some kids walking in front of the guy. But he was going so slow they may have just been able to jump out of the way, ha ha. I need to teach my car to do that. :D

Anyway 2012 here I come. I resolve to make the best of it as always, but it's those things that happen that are out of my control I'm hoping are kinder next year. Because 2011 was a bitch.

Caligari 12-31-2011 01:41 PM

That does suck man, but look at it this way- you probably won't have another accident for a good 20 years!

.

John-ACWM 01-02-2012 07:50 AM

Have a better new year!

LAJ 01-02-2012 10:13 AM

Goddamn I hate shitty drivers. Sorry to hear of it!

AdultEUhost 01-02-2012 10:20 AM

brassmonkey 01-02-2012 10:30 AM
