Is a "Bigger" house really what we want?

Wife keeps saying, if only we had a bigger house. I mean, it's the same people, just more space. We're in a 4 bdrm now, office, guest room.

Space creates... space and that's about it in my mind.

Do we really want the kids further away. Is another 2k sq feet in and out going to finally make her happy.

She just screamed out "YES!" she likes space. *shakes head*

ottopottomouse 12-31-2011 11:03 AM

The more space you've got the more shit you accumulate to fill it.

brassmonkey 12-31-2011 11:11 AM

want to be on that tv show hoarders?

BlackCrayon 12-31-2011 11:11 AM

its more space to clean too. sounds like she needs a break from the kids.

raymor 12-31-2011 11:13 AM

Does she have her own private space to sit and read or whatever? Is decluttering a possibility?

arock10 12-31-2011 11:17 AM

let her out to walk around in the yard

I moved to a smaller house, used to have 4 bed now only 2, but have got a 2 story 1000sq ft garage/storeroom and more land, much prefer it.

Tell your wife you'll compromise and put in bigger / wider doors.

L-Pink 12-31-2011 11:44 AM

Tell your wife your mistress is very happy with a 1,500 sq foot condo despite the fact her tits are twice as big.

Read something about minimalist lifestyle, worthwhile: http://www.mnmlist.com/

I'm looking for a house right now and am going through the same debate "with myself". I was looking for 3000+ sq ft. but now am wondering if it's worth it. more space equals a much higher price on everything now and forever.

It all depends on how you define better.

For me I would rather travel and see the world than have big house. If he choice was to live in a 1,800 SQ foot typical 3 bedroom house or live in a 6 bedroom 4,000 sq ft house I would choose the smaller and use the money I saved to take a couple of very cool trips every year and I would be 10 times happier than if I had the bigger house.

Who's paying for this extra space? If it's you, then maybe she should put a sock in it.

epitome 12-31-2011 01:40 PM

I used to think bigger was better.

My Mom always says you can only be in one room at a time.

I didn't understand that concept.

It's just two of us. I used to think we each needed more than 1,000 sf each, yet we were always in the same room.

When moving to FL said fuck it and decided to try much smaller. Much happier. We get out more, which was the goal.

Edit: I don't live with my mom. US = bf and I. My mom just always gave advice that now makes sense to me. Her biggest piece of advice is that people want one of two things from you: a buck or a fuck. That hippy stoner is wise I tell ya!

This summer I went from 5k square feet down to 2.5k.

Advantages:

1: The wife, who used to love the big house, no longer complains about how much time goes into keeping it clean.

2: $1,000.00 per month less on the payment.

3: 1/3 of the electric and gas bills.

4: Way easier to maintain a regulated temperature.

Disadvantages:

1: Not as many locations to shoot content.

2: Not as much room for guests.

3: Moving 5k square feet worth of shit into a 2.5 square foot home isn't easy. I had some tough decisions to make....Like keeping the big ass special order dining room table and hutch that I used once a year or my pool table that I use almost daily.

Although this house has better character, I feel a little cramped and would love an additional 500 or so SF to make it seem not so tight.

Brent 3dSexCash 12-31-2011 02:06 PM

more space to heat and cool.

more bathrooms to use water to pay for.

Seth Manson 12-31-2011 03:23 PM

I'd rather have a smaller house, a bigger workshop, and have it sitting in the middle of a large tract of land.

This is so true in my book it took only 8 months to loose everything i worked for the last 8 years. I am literately bankrupt at this moment. Foreclosure will probably start this month on my home.

When we had our 1500sq ft condo we lived very comfortable and actually had money to live and do things like vacations. Since we wanted to have the so called "America Dream" we have not lived since we acquired it. We been stuck in a routine to make sure bills paid and such. Our bills just for are home run about $3800 a month and $1300 a month for cars. So with me not being able to find work and and other pay decrease in the house hold we lost around $100k a year income this year. Living off of your savings money goes quick.

So for me this year can kiss my ass i cant wait till its over lol. I will be so glad to get back to the simple life this year :)

One thing i did learn is doing the right moral thing is not always the best thing to do financially. With that being said good luck to everyone in 2012 and happy New Years :thumbsup
