I got a new boy today :)

open your eyes
and we'll begin
from here
brand new day
fresh new way to live

I just want to share my joy with you today. As you may know I lost my boy (my cat Lucky) on Sept 16. So many of you were so kind. A couple of you even wrote me. That really helped. You know who you are.

Thank you again and also thank you to all those who posted in my thread on Sept 16. 3 pages of good wishes from so many of you all. That also really helped.

when it mattered you were there

Last 4 months has been tough. First time I have been truly alone. Even tho I have been alone since I was 18, I was never truly alone as I always had at least one cat living with me.

I did not realize it but their spirit for life and natural happiness was the strength that allowed me to be happy living alone and not feel I was alone.

They gave me strength and I guess quelled my loneliness altho I always prided myself on being able to be alone and happy. But alas I was never really totally alone.

I was getting over it a bit when the last few days were suddenly very tough again. I would think about how Lucky used to come in and walk over to eat.. just little things.

For a while I thought maybe I won't even get another one. But lately I knew I would have to sometime and the sooner the better.

But it was more complicated it seemed than when I was younger. Then I just went and did it.

enter Howard and Beth Stern

Like millions I was glad to hear Howard Stern back on (Tuesday's show). The show began where Howard talked about "drunk dialing" on New Years Eve where he called around 50 fans at their homes (yes fifty!) off Twitter and wished them Happy New Years and the best. (This is why people love him)

It led me to this picture Howard took of Beth and their adopted cat Apple.

This was my last cat Lucky exactly. Down to the lil white diamond on the chest.

The challenging look in her eye, the strength she exudes in holding him, along with the first tweet I read where Howard told someone on his twitter to "Go adopt a cat, they are sitting in cages right now" and then actually called that person to ask about the cats after the person adopted two.

I then listened to this song from Carole King, one of my absolute favorite writers. It really touched me.

green fields and rolling hills
room enough to do what we will
sweet dreams of yestertime
are running through my mind
of a place i left behind

tho im content with myself
sometimes i long to be somewhere else
i try to do what i can
but with a day to day demand
we all need a promise land

Howard's cute lil adopted doggie

With this nudge from Beth and Howard and Carole plus warmer weather the next two days I knew today (yesterday Wednesday) was the day. Even tho I had been up all night working hard and normally go to bed now.

This was the day. :thumbsup

it's the late night side of morning

I called around. I found out the humane society here charges about $175 to adopt a cat to pay mostly for neutering and shots. Used to be $30 in the mid 90's. My budget is so tight right now that I cant really afford an additional $175.

But love will find a way.

My friend has connections to almost everyone in this area and knows a veternarian in another town who has 4 kittens and will neuter the males for free. The one female they must charge for as it is more complicated. This is almost the only way to get a neutered kitten for free. You must know a vet. My friend knows a vet :thumbsup

Elated, I popped a no-doze (generic brand hehe to save money of course) and drove out with my friend to this small MN town to choose one of the 3 male kittens.

They just had one of them there, the other two we would have to go visit. I looked at pictures of the other two.

But he was perfect. A lil male who is 6 months and has been living in a barn on a farm. Eating nothing but cow's milk and what he can find. Not even any dry cat food. But that is somewhat common for farm cats I guess.

He is very small for 6 months. I picked him up and let him lay on my crossed arms and black cordoroy winter jacket.

He immediately snuggled into the arms and cuddly fabric and started purring like crazy. :) He was home. :) I melted and a flood of happiness overtook me. :)

He is perfect. Very friendly, cool and relaxed. I guess farm life will do that to you. :)

So they are going to neuter him for free and it will only cost me $35 for a rabies shot.

I will be picking him up Monday. :) I thought all you who were concerned (including Howard and Beth) should know. :thumbsup :)

Thanks Howard and Beth and Carole King. :) It was the push and sign I needed.

HS theme song (very clean)

the light is on :)

I am going to name him Buddy :)

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

"room enough to do what we will"

Thank you Carole

once again I can get lost down on Pooh Corners

lucky and I walked along
under branches lit up by the moon
posing our questions to owl and eeyore
as our days disappeared all too soon

Tho so very tough to lose a boy. We never forget them.

But it doesnt mean we must walk alone into the future.

We put them in Gods hands. We wish them the best. We never forget. And we love again.

Welcome home Buddy :) :thumbsup
