Fans of AMC's mob movie marathons can rejoice: The network has a TV version of "Goodfellas" in the works, Deadline Hollywood reports.

AMC is developing a series based on Martin Scorsese's classic "Goodfellas," with writer Nicholas Pileggi, who adapted the screenplay from his book "Wiseguy," on hand to co-write the TV adaptation. (Good sign, no?)

Along with fellow co-writer Jorge Zamacona, Pileggi and "Goodfellas" producer Irwin Winkler will executive produce the developing project.

Released in 1990, "Goodfellas" starred Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta, and focused on the rise and fall of mobster Henry Hill (Liotta) from 1955 to 1980. Nominated for six Oscars, including best picture, Pesci walked away with the Academy Award for best supporting actor.

As long as they don't gimp it in order to pay the salaries of the Mad Men talent...it could be like a cross between the Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.

Any of you seen the "Banged Up Abroad" episode where they interview the real Henry Hill on his life and how it was portrayed in the movie.... check it out, worth seeing.

The movie is a lot like the way it happened but theres a lot of extra info about what happened.

I'm looking forward to it already.

It was on TV last night (the movie) cant wait to see what this is about. Everytime its on TV I feel like I am disrespecting if I dont watch it.

The movie is legendary. I will definitely check out the series and hope it's good, but I almost hate to see it associated with the movie at all. Let it stand on its own or not and leave the legend that is Goodfellas out of it.

Some things should probably be left alone.

I would love to see a new quality dramatic gangster series. I miss the Sopranos.

I'm eager to see this. Any quality mafia tv show should be entertaining.
