Wordpress question about "comments"

I logged into 1 of my blogs that I have not visited in a while and noticed there were close to a 1,000 comments held for moderation.

How do I disable commenting all together, I don't want anyone to even be able to post anything even for moderation. This will turn into a new daily choir deleting these comments as I develop more blogs.

Thanks

wp-admin/options-discussion.php

you can set various limits to prevent commenting like that

Horny Dude 01-15-2012 09:43 PM

Just remove the comments section from your theme files.

In he settings option you can also tick the boxes (un tick really) where it ask you how comments should be treated but the nuclear option suggested by horny dude is probably the best if you don't want comments at all.

There's a plug in that takes out the spam ones.

Yeah, askimet. It's pretty good.

TrustCash 01-16-2012 07:33 AM

Askimet rocks! Placing comments in blogs and sites is only ask for incessant spamming. And I mean the pernicious kind.

find the comments_template() in your single.php and remove it

and if you want to remove all your spam comments in queue.

In case you try searching for it, the anti-spam plugin is spelled 'Akismet'.

Si 01-16-2012 08:50 AM

I would just remove the comment box(es) in you theme.

There is no need to waste resources on plugins. Simply edit your database as described here to remove all comments:

brassmonkey 03-28-2014 10:29 AM

delete the register.php

MrTrollkien 03-28-2014 10:40 AM

Settings >> Discussion >> uncheck "Allow people to post comments on new articles"

This applies to new posts that you will publish from now on. To disallow comments from already publish posts:

Posts >> select them all and "Edit" under bulk actions and hit apply >> choose "do not allow" next to comments and hit update posts.

Why are you bothering to answer a 2 year old thread as if it's a current topic?

iwantchixx 03-28-2014 12:26 PM

Old thread, but it seems to have netted someone's interest anways so for sake of adding something constructive..

Why disable comments when user engagement can only help your site more?

Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin in the WP plugin database will stop that annoying comment spam but allow legit shit through.

Although a 2 year old thread there are a few new plug ins to handle spam comments and registrations.

I prefer the CleanTalk plug in currently, use the search in add new plug ins to find it and install. Register your site using the link in the plug in settings and get a key. Easy to use, does not seem to cause issues with other plug ins.

just my :2 cents:

DumpManager 03-28-2014 12:49 PM

I found the comment system to be a horrible. 98% spam posted.

I just removed the entire comments entirely.

By the way not sure if you know this but my sister is a stay at home mom who makes $75 per hour....

Use disqus if you want comments

exactly...
also use Askimet if you want to keep WP comments...

adultchatpay 03-29-2014 06:03 AM

WP comments are good for your site. People keep coming back. But make sure to avoid spams... they are the worst.
