What do i need to use wordpress as a paysite?
 

I think i've read before there are plugins for this? Or am i wrong?

and a custom made post rotator plugin to make it look like its updated all the time along with the Missed Scheduled plug-in as having a protected area plays havoc with WP's internal cron.

what you use to protect membership areas and or payment integration.,

i'm with ccbill, i'm actually using two wordpress installs, one for the tour then the membership area wordpress on a subdomain.

the tour wordpress only uses a custom plug-in i have that randomly rotates the posts (i only have three posts per page) and after a couple of clicks on continue the sufer gets pushed to the join page (again using some custom code) so although the tour is WP powered, it actually looks like a "reality" style tour. and the Wordtube plugin so i can show sample clips.

You can use CCBill and one install as well

Make a category "Members" (slug: members) and a directory, "/members"

Load a copy of index.php from your theme there (customize as you see fit)

Add the CCBill htaccess on top of WP htaccess (from root) into /members

Customize your theme (loop) so that posts in Members category show excerpts only on outside pages.

"Member" cookie based conditionals will let you swap "more" links from targeting join page (when not logged in), to targeting content page when logged in...

You can use WP's own registration system to likewise offer extended previews in exchange for email addys

yeah, i'm sure it's possible to do it with one install but i wanted to err on the safe side and using two installs is no biggie. I just found that using two installs allowed me more freedom to experiment more with hacking away at bits of wordpress i didnt want and adding in bits i did.

What problems have you had with WP's internal cron acting up?

I'm helping my brother put together a WP based members area and after it was protected, some strange things started happening. The first was the menu nav just totally disappeared out of the blue. Had to build it again. Then sometimes when permissions are changed, thumbs stop showing and you can't get them back no matter what. You have to delete and remake the entire post.

I told him to scrap it and use another CMS because it's one small headache after another, playing whack-a-mole with little glitches. Though I'm curious as to what issues you've had. I never gave the internal cron any thought until I read your post.

In my case it stopped the scheduler from working. There are a few posts in the WP forums about cron problems with protected areas.

Im trying to figure out how to create Model Bio/Profile pages (I'm thinking they would be done as tags or categories...but not sure). Anyone know any plugins or other ways to do this?

AdultSiteCMS has this function built in...but their themes wont work for what I have in mind.

s2member is free to work with only paypal, the pro (paid) version has module for ccbill, though.

Others with CCBill mods are magic members, as others have mentioned, and also amember.

I am looking to do this myself, but all three of those do not have complete functionality I need.

I'd like it to work with a multisite install for network wide access, which magic members can't do...and also have pay per post access, which the other two can't do.

Out of the three I have been leaning towards amember lately. The programmer of that one will take on custom jobs, sometimes. I just haven't gotten around to it, yet.

I need to buy something this week and i still can't make up my mind. Magic members is on top of my list now but i just keep thinking it's overkill for what i need.
Really all i need is a way to have a blog as a tour and when they click a vid or picture they need to sign up. The member area will be the same blog with the links enabled.
I don't want to mess around with site mirrors and messing around in wordpress as suggested earlier in the this thread. There must be some kind of simple plugin for this right? I mean more simple than magic members. If not then i simply will buy MM but i'm giving this one more bump for other suggestions.

I have custom ones made for tour design and then have those ones modified for the members area.

wait, now that I think about it, and to avoid confusions, what I said might be inaccurate. If you don't have the skills to modify existing blogs programmatically, you will need to add a MORE tag by have or have some template modification
