What does this say about Obama and his followers?

State of the Union registers at 8th grade reading level

"The University of Minnesota's Smart Politics conducted an analysis on the last 70 State of the Union addresses and found that President Obama's three addresses have the lowest grade average of any modern president."

He was probably talking down knowing that there are so many idiots out there who need the help to understand simple concepts.

2012 01-25-2012 03:42 PM

That's about the level you're really at when you graduate high school here.

acctman 01-25-2012 03:47 PM

I've always believed that "smart talk" is overrated. If the mass populace can't understand you, are you really that great of an orator?

"About the Center

Under the leadership of nationally prominent political scientist Lawrence Jacobs, the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance develops practical, independent, and non-partisan solutions to pressing political and policy challenges. Founded in 2005, CSPG fosters effective and efficient governance, increases the transparency of government processes, and rebuilds the public trust in order to counteract negative influences that threaten our democracy."

That's why so many are enchanted with him and his teleprompter speeches.

America has been dumbed down and is full of idiots now who don't know much about anything. But they can work, pay taxes, vote, and be obedient. That's all that matters.

Key words here being "University of Minnesota". Because, you know, that's one of the top ten universities in.... Minnesota.

It's rather comical really. It seems to me that you believe in one side one side only, and everything your side says is always right and everything the other side says is always wrong. No one seems to understand exactly how stupid they look.

The study didn't analyze whether what he said was intelligent. It's a reading COMPREHENSION analysis, not a "this guy is smart" analysis. It analyzed what grade level education you'd need to understand his words. Lots of short, simple words versus longer, more nuanced words. In other words, Obama spoke as though he were talking to idiots, more Dr. Seus words, compared to previous presidents whose speeches were aimed at more educated people. Speak of reading comprehension ...

It's not surprising. Obama has a populist message and in 2008 a lot of his votes were from people who never voted before and people with little interest in or knowledge of politics. It only stands to reason that he would again try to energize the same people. Many of those supporters would be lost if he started talking about debt to GDP ratio.

Ross Perot would be an interesting contrast. He DID talk about things like debt to GDP ratio, using charts to try to educate the electorate about the issues.

BULLSHIT, no one would have a lower grad level than BUSH

Mutt 01-25-2012 06:14 PM

and that's a good thing, it's one of Obama's strengths, he talks no differently than the average joe with a high school education.

when I go looking for quotations it always occurs to me that politicians and anybody else in society in older generations put a lot of time crafting these fancy quotes about anything and everything - more to impress than anything else.

i admire writers and orators - they can be inspiring but i don't really need or want it from politicians. the only time it's an asset is when emotion is needed to stir up support - a campaign speech, a victory speech or a we're going to war speech.

say what you want about Dubya but after 9/11 when he spoke to the nation and the world and concluded with 'Let's roll' it was every bit as inspiring and impactful as anything Winston Churchill and his speech writers ever wrote during World War II.

Obama makes Bush sound at the very least, mildly retarded.

What's a grad level and why does it not surprise me that you're an Obama supporter?

Funny thing is, as dumb as Bush is, John Kerry got a lower GPA than Bush did at Yale.

Zoxxa 01-25-2012 11:52 PM

You try to sell your porn sites to Harvard grads? When you need to get a message across to the most amount of people, you convey that message in a way that gets across to the most amount of people.

Make fun of it all you want. It speaks volumes.
Dumbing down keeps you suppressed to the lowest common denominator. As opposed to making the dummy downs smart up.
Do you always like being talked to like you're an idiot?

Go on believing everything is fine and dandy, just don't come begging to be on a team that knows what they're up to when your ass is getting hauled off to foster the globalists :2 cents:
