I don't get why someone would "be into blades"...

I'm fan of blades too - without being aggressive myself. It's like a preference - the blades do have that magic that makes people to stare at something - finding it beautiful and attractive. The same magic that makes people to collect or to possess cars, guns (yeah the same thing), boats, houses, dogs.
It gives some security and confidence (not the same way as a gun but it gives some).

Everyone's gonna need one soon.
