16,950 files uploaded, 34 million page views = $3,400
User 'VV'
The new wire fraud charges are based on communications from the company to copyright holders. In those emails, defendants falsely represented that infringing content had been removed when it had not been removed, Justice Department officials say. The document also highlights one account holder that uploaded 16,950 files to sites the company owned, generating more than 34 million page views over the course of six years. User "VV" was subject to numerous requests for removal, but records show no deletions of any of VV's uploaded files. Megaupload paid user VV $3,400 through its rewards programme over the course of two years. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17080942 guess that's big money in Madhya Pradesh. |

Thats seems like a lot of work for "only" $3400, however in shithole country India its a pretty good pay I would say :D
|
Steal millions worth of content to make $3400. Over 2 years. Pathetic.

Another Indian Internet success story.

Is it possible he only did this on MU and never automated it so it was running while he slept?
I know auto downloaders work and I had to block them, so can he auto upload as well? How many sites are there like MU? Still it shows how big this piracy business is, with the right publicity a SOPA like act will sail through. Who is going to say squat when it's revealed there are 1,000 of people like VV? Other than other pirasites. |

Could MU have an Auto Uploader for favored people? They need to trace this guy VV and find out what else he was doing. Create the right publicity and SOPA is a slam dunk. "An Iranian terrorist uploading American owned copyright files to fund terrorism, along with 100 others doing the same." Letters protesting are used to light the cigars of the record and film bosses. :thumbsup |
whoooooooooooosh

Only one way this is possible, and that because MU only paid out for the legit sharing (CC, owned by the uploader, etc) and revoked the commission for the infringing. As for the removing the files, the safe harbor can be interpreted to be removing ACCESS, not the files themselves. Removing the hyperlink only would still be complient with the safe harbor provision. |
truth sucks doesn't it. and this is the cutting edge business model you think everyone should be forced to follow. everyone can be pakistani ballers.
why would the guy keep uploading thousands of files for two years if they were revoking commissions? charity? these file sharing business are more scummy than the record companies. as for the last points, tell it to the judge. Quote:

mega upload paid 1.2/k at the low end of file sizes (4/k for really big files broke the free file limit) 34,000,000 *1.2/1000 (40,800) is way more then $3,400. So the only way that was possible is that they didn't pay for a shit load of views. Why they didn't pay would be an important issue. |
This sounds like the equivalent of shoveling shit in a ditch for 5000 hours at pennies per hour.
But what else can someone with no talent or skill do? |
i wonder what internet connection was the guys using.,
