Totally... stay away from any dog food that says "meat" without specifying what's actually in it. I get Canidae for my dogs, which doesn't have any of the mystery stuff in it.

Don't buy your dog food from grocery stores and you don't have anything to worry about for the most part. The more well-known a dog food is(lots of TV ads), the more likely it'll be mixed with tons of harmful crap so they can get the price down, and the executives can buy bigger houses and speedboats.
My boy gets Bil Jac. They've been in business since the 40's and they keep their ingredients simple. I don't know if its 100% true, but they say there's 12pounds of real chicken in a 15 pound bag. If you get something like Science diet, and read the first few ingredients, you'll see a bunch of crap and meat-by-products. It makes me sad when I'm at the dog park and hear some idiot tell me he gives his dog some crappy food I wouldn't feed to a mule, like Purina. |

I started to just feed my 12 year old dog table scraps and leftovers, and he's never been happier.
I just figured, he's spent his whole life begging and scheming to get human food from us, and bought pet food is always so terrible and I am sorry but I'm not spending crazy amounts trying to feed this dog all organic and shit lol. He absolutely loves it, and is healthy and happy. When I made the switch, he's like, wow what the hell happened? lol The whole pet and pet food industry sickens me though. Mostly a commodity they are. And people will blindly care for one type of animal while eating another that suffers so much. It all sucks and nobody can really change any of it, even peta. |
