Managed hosts which support FreeBSD

Hello,

As title says, I need to know what managed hosts support managed FreeBSD hosting?
One I know is the ISPrime.

AdultEUhost 03-11-2012 03:30 PM

We mainly work with FreeBSD since 2002

ladida 03-11-2012 04:16 PM

Choopa/amerinoc/techiemedia are the ones i saw. Not sure are they managed boxes.

sandman! 03-11-2012 04:17 PM

hit me up 99% of our servers are freebsd

chaze 03-11-2012 05:52 PM

Why freebsd? We use Linux only.

isnt not like you cant install a different os

AdultEUhost 03-11-2012 06:56 PM

FreeBSD is a very mature, stable and performance oriented operating system
I find it very pleasant to work with without all the bullshit stuff a centos installs by default for example. Centos is great too but if we have larger and more complex setups we normally go freebsd.

sandman! 03-11-2012 07:16 PM

better question would be why do you only use linux ?

lol

Supz 03-11-2012 07:36 PM

Best server OS.
Penguins go home.

More progressive.

Free BSD is much more limited. Drivers, configuration (try recoding the core of free BSD), addons, the list really goes on. Free BSD cannot keep up now-a-days. Don't get me wrong, back in the day it was more stable. Now it's behind in almost every way to Linux other then the cool devil logo.

CYF 03-11-2012 09:29 PM

check out Amerinoc. See sig for coupons :thumbsup

TidalWave 03-11-2012 09:38 PM

If its managed, why are you trying to make the decisions for the host?

asdfqwer 03-12-2012 09:07 PM

I have been on FreeBSD the last 7 years and now looking for a custom streaming solution and would trust this setup to FreeBSD as well.

Perhaps the scripts they are planning on running?

I suspect most reputable manged hosts will offer FreeBSD. I am relatively confident MojoHost does. We offer it, but provide a control panel so you can do just about anything yourself. I think the real question is do you really need managed or do you need a great panel and support when you need it? That we can do.

kacy 03-12-2012 10:39 PM

We provide managed services on FreeBSD with or without a control panel.
Let us know if we can help :)

sandman! 03-12-2012 10:52 PM

why post in a freebsd hosting thread to spam your sig if you dont sell freebsd hosting ?

lol

Parallels Plesk control panel doesn't support FreeBSD anymore. They are assholes. FreeBSD is a great OS for stable servers.

Fap 03-12-2012 11:23 PM

Webair :)

Because I am not too paranoid to talk about things I believe in, without worrying about negative people that have nothing better to do then try to cause drama :winkwink:

fris 03-13-2012 08:07 AM

i would never signup with a host that has linux only

Webair can help you with a Fully Managed server running FreeBSD. Hit me up and let's talk about what we need to get you setup. :thumbsup

asdfqwer 03-13-2012 04:21 PM

So far... Choopa/ISPrime/Amerinoc.
I know that Swiftwill does support FreeBSD as well.

So far I am having a hard time contacting Reflected.net sales, they havent respond for two days now. Wondering how fast are they with support..

Anyone else?

And FreeBSD is a great stable OS for servers.

Completely wrong, you're definitely ignorant when it comes to FreeBSD.

Read the Handbook and then come back and look at your paragraph.

asdasd 03-13-2012 06:01 PM

You might have trouble streaming on free bsd itself.
Unless you are going the route of http://www.rtmpd.com/
Either way power to you, never mind these dumbasses, good username. :thumbsup

asdfqwer your idol?

Brujah 03-13-2012 08:39 PM

I really like freebsd, but my favorite linux flavor is probably debian.

12 years of experience tells otherwise. It's not a huge difference and Freebsd is awesome but without a doubt Linux is much more versatile and more supported. There is no argument on this.

OS X is a version of BSD, and pretty versatile. :2 cents:

it's a variation of unix which is what freebsd and Linux is based off of and it's locked tighter than bankers donation budget.

It's Apples and Oranges for the most part. Linux has better driver support, more versatility, and a more active community, also the kernel is a little cleaner just from being upgraded more times (better ram utilization and smoother load). After about 5 years of working with both, we saw alot more problems with freebsd and an almost impossible way to upgrade them. It wasn't worth it to use them anymore. Keep in mind our head tech learned on freebsd and is smarter then all of us chit chatting here. Do what you like (of course), it's your server. If a pro photographer is telling me how to shoot on the right camera I would listen, I suggest paying attention about a server OS from someone that has hosted tens of thousands of sites with thousands of servers over 12 straight extremely successful years.

Brujah 03-14-2012 04:16 AM

chaze, what's your preferred linux distro?

I wasn't saying they were the same. I said I liked FreeBSD. When it comes to Linux, my current goto distro is usually Debian.

Thanks for the link, I will take a look at it :)

asdfqwer 03-14-2012 07:26 PM

Anyone seen hacked FreeBSD on a root level? Probably yes, but I see Linux getting hacked much often.
Anyway back to topic, any other host managed FreeBSD host company?

sandman! 03-14-2012 07:34 PM

we run 99% freebsd servers the only servers we ever had rooted were linux.

unless someone insists we never use linux any more.

It really just comes down to what your most comfortable with and what features you need...both Linux and FreeBSD are great.
