The John Edwards Trial...

Edwards, 58, pleaded not guilty to six criminal counts related to nearly $1 million in secret payments from two wealthy supporters. Much of the money was used to hide the then-married politician's pregnant mistress during his 2008 White House campaign.

Man downtown is a cluster fuck as the trial starts today here in Greensboro, NC.

I don't understand what he did wrong ?

Since when is it a crime to receive a gift of $1 million and spend it to pay off a pregnant hoe ?

bronco67 04-23-2012 09:18 AM

He's done nothing, compared to what Wall Streeter bankers have done, and continue to do. They ass rape the financial system at the expense of every man, woman and child in America -- but we want to hang this guy out to dry for spending some money on a woman? Fucking ridiculous.

Yep, and the time wasting trials of Roger Clemens continue today for fibbing about taking steroids.

Oh yeah, that shit is the worst. It makes me boiling mad to see a bunch of politicians wasting my tax dollars to yell at a guy trying to be better at sports. Think about the context of why they are all in that room taking themselves so fucking seriously, and it just seems pretty absurd. He's a guy who throws a white ball for another guy to hit with a wooden stick ... and they wear silly uniforms. It's a game.

Dammit! I thought this thread was going to be about Jedward!

He should have gone with ' pages ' young boys, or men in the toilets ... that seems to pass the morality test :2 cents:

Not sure how much the whole trial will cost but I think it will be the same price.

Edwards is a stuffed suit who has a sex/mistress/lovechild/deadwife.. So of course the gossip/news dogs can't get enough of it I bet.

His story is sad, mostly because of his deceased wife who was a seemingly good person who deserved better.. but shit, edwards is nothing to anyone.

Something I don't understand is Bunny Mellon gave him a lot of money and even paid the gift tax on it. If she paid the gift tax, that is a gift and not a contribution, right?

raymor 04-23-2012 10:41 AM

Wow so you guys are all okay with a candidate taking millions in illegal campaign contributions, then illegally using the campaign cash for personal use? This mindset of "anyone on our team can do no wrong" baffles me.

Edwards is accused of accepting more than $900,000 in campaign funds from two wealthy donors, knowing the exposure of his extramarital affair "would destroy his presidential campaign," prosecutors said in a trial brief.

Is it YOUR team way of spreading false info to transform into facts ... YOUR team ( lol ... NBA playoffs ..) bla bla bla ....

More than $900,000 ~ a million, but whatever. It's okay for him to commit a couple of crimes with more than $900,000 as long as he's a democrat? In the conservative state of Texas, we sent Republican Tom Delay to prison for three years when he did that kind of money laundering. Just because he was a republican didn't mean other republicans wouldn't indict, arrest, and imprison him when he became a criminal.

You would think that but who knows.

:Oh crap

Rochard 04-23-2012 11:42 AM

I think the reasons politicians cheat is because divorce is not an option. Edwards couldn't divorce his wife; It would have ended his political career. The fact that his wife was dieing of cancer just looks bad, but doesn't really change the facts.

There was no way he could have gotten a divorce for sure.

Bunny Mellon personally gave $700,000 to Edwards and filed for and paid a gift tax:

http://www.tax26.com/posts/external/4995/

That leaves a little over $200k in question, which Edwards also said was a gift from his now deceased campaign finance chairman.

Since the deceased cannot testify, and about 77% of questionable funds were indeed a gift, I do not know what the case is.

The man has done some horribly shitty stuff in his personal life that would make me question his ability to serve as President, but I don't think they have a case here.

Tom Delay is free on bail ....

As for Edwards, I just pointed that you were saying millions ( meaning 2 or more ) while in fact is it under one million ....

What I do not get tough is that Edwards is rich , so why would he use campaign money while he has his own ... ?

Did Newt use his own to buy Tiffany's jewelry for his mistress ... ??? Who knows.

Don't forget good ol' Ted Stevens!

Convicted and still in the election and narrowly defeated.

Just shows you how many Republican voters only give a shit when it's not their party.

TurboAngel 04-23-2012 02:32 PM

It's crazy downtown now as all the media is here.

Then Marion "caught smoking crack with hookers" Berry who was re-elected and Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin, re-elected after he and Blanco's arrogance in refusing federal help for several days cost thousands of lives.

No matter how incompetent and crooked a politician is, no matter how utterly they fail, so many people still support them. I don't get it.

DC voters are a different breed of voters.

I think Berry is running for something again and still expected to win. Berry also got in trouble a few years ago for funds. And drugs again, I think.

A lot of SE DC has been cleared out by pushing people into Prince Georges County and if they eventually do the same to NE, the only folks that don't mind criminals won't be residents to elect folks like him.
