Hows your handwriting?
 

When I was at school, pre 1984, it was pretty good...

Since then I use a keyboard - and type - then, when I need to write a 'Birthday Card' (As an example) it looks like a spastic with crippled hands has paid a spider to walk into an inkwell, and then wander across the card!

Am I alone in the loss of this basic skill?

Probably you are not alone. If you don't use your skill for a long time, you lose it.

You can try practicing to copy good-looking writing, like below.

My cursive sucks because of my arthritis.

with my hand writing you would think I'm a doctor. Yes, it sucks.

I have a shit memory so write things on a notepad all the time. Writing is ok and anybody else can read it too but it's not all neat like it was at school.

I know what you mean about writing like a spastic though - I can remember writing a postcard a couple of years ago that was like I was trying to use my brain coupled with someone else's hand.

My handwriting sucks. I can print OK, but my cursive is worse than a doctors.

Mine is so bad it looks as if I can't even write.

Give me a form to fill out and my hand will "lock up" halfway through. My grip is super tight, it's not natural anymore.

i write notes all day on paper but im fairly sure im the only one that can read it

my handwriting and printing has gone to shit - sometimes i'll rip up checks i've written because they embarass me.

i had pretty good handwriting until somewhere in the high school years i just began to scrawl my own version of shorthand.

i can barely write my signature :)

btw, there are good handwriting fonts so look around for them if you need for b-day card :)

I write like a retarded child. My handwriting has never been that great so it's not like I went from a master calligrapher to Michael J. Fox.

Mine have always been horrible. Looks like some 8 year old wrote it.

My hand barely remembers how to form the letters and in some cases it's simply vanished.
