Just diagnosed with acid reflux disease
Unfucking real, first it's high cholesterol now this. Doc gave me a script for this prolosec shit, says on the label it takes 4 to 6 weeks to take effect. Anyone else on this stuff? Does it really take that long to start working? I'm making a appointment with a ENT to get a solid second opinion. I am guessing they put you under and do the opposite of a colonoscopy? One down the throat?

If you are open to alt ways to deal with certain ailments check out this book:
Clean by Alejandro Junger. Simply amazing. |
Don't take any medicine. That shit is probably worse for you overall.
Get some tums, drop the coffee and don't sleep on your right side. Your stomach sphincter to the esophagus is on that side, and it'll let more acid out if you lay that way. I did an animation of how it works a few years ago, then ironically, I had the worst case of that shit myself. I lost track of the number of times I woke up in the middle of the night with a mouthful of bile. Sucks donkey dick, and I hated it, but I'm scared of that shit the doctors prescribe. I've worked on many jobs for lots of drugs, and all those Pharm companies care about in the end is that their ass is covered with disclamiers that are 5 times longer than the ad itself. |
Your handle has suddenly become much more relevant.
Should not be kidding about that though, I have been feeling very strong symptoms myself for the last few days. |
All that prepper stuff is killing you man... :(
|
You can buy over the counter stuff that'll take care of it. Use some alternative methods as suggested as well. Have had it an still do to an extent. I just learned to live with it and tried to avoid all the good bad for you stuff as much as possible.
|
Oh, yeah...too much sugar would always send mine into overdrive.
I really wish I knew if it was the measures I took to control it, or it just went away on its own. |

BTW, Tums are like magic. It seems like the reflux calms down the second those things go in your mouth. Always have a bottle.

i never heard that being called a disease

Heck, my wife almost lost her life from a septic kidney stone just 4 days ago. So imagine what cholesterol buildups can do for a more vital organ, your liver. Acid reflux is the beginning of a long road of poking, probing, prodding and pain for many years if you don't learn to eat for it and eat foods that keeps your bile ducts, stomach and intestines void of extra acids. |
Oh and try Tecta, Very effective. 6 week treatment will reduce the acid to almost normal permanently with dietary change.
|
Buy generic ranitidine at the walmart, cheap and it helps a lot. Take one a few hours before sleeping. Any of the acid blockers will do, but I prefer ranitidine.
Don't eat fatty foods before going to sleep. Like the guy said, sleep on your left side. Keep quick dissolve antacids or antacid liquid by your bed and take it as soon as you feel any symptoms. gaviscon, with the reflux blocker, is also pretty effective. The not eating fatty foods before you sleep is the real key. It's not a big problem, as long as you are proactive about it |
Eating better > meds
|
oh that sucks. I get heartburn now and then and it's not fun. tums help but still......
Esp when I take cialis - heartburn on anything I eat for 3-4 days.... couldn't imagine how bad it would be if it was all the time. Sorry Tom. Hope your meds work. |

> Don't sleep on your right side
> Use a large wedge pillow > Don't eat greasy foods, acidic foods (orange juice, tomatoes, onions, etc.), fatty food > Don't eat chocolate > Don't eat right before bed or going to the gym Prilosec is only a short term solution. You need to change your diet and reduce your stress. |
Coffee is the one that did me in.
Also what other drugs are you on? Any of the NSAIDs will cause it. So thats anything from aspirin to diclofenec. I seemed to get over it after a few months and now I am just cautious about what I eat in the few hours before I sleep. |
I suffer from the same thing. Doc told me it was too much alcohol and cigarettes. I've reduced my intake and it's improved.
I do keep some antiacid tablets in stock for when I get a flare up and that takes care of it. Not cool though, the acid reflex comes up and makes me short of breath when it hits. |
easiest cure in the world: Vegan diet
fucking doctors are criminals for not telling you that |

Shouldn't have to worry about them sticking a tube down your throat, at least unless it gets a lot worse and they have to look for other stuff. The meds (prilosec or whatever) are no big deal and they help. Good luck with it, it sucks but if you change your diet and eating habits and take the meds, it's usually pretty controllable. |

The system gives you drugs to make bank and make you dependent on them, like adding another tax. Don't trust that system, it's corrupt to the core, even if your doctor doesn't know it. Drinking water is more effective than the drugs, but they probably didn't tell you that as they are not profiting from water. There needs to be a patent for them to recommend it. The other day I was told if I didn't take antibiotics for a minor foot infection, I would lose my right foot, I refused point blank, treated it naturally, now the infection has all cleared up.

Yep. Have experience. Used to take it for years after stopped drinking.
However, I do not like taking pills. Any kind. I did some research, changed diet, and within a week the acid reflux was gone. Eat more greens, less processed/frozen food (a lot of sodium), cut out sugar/salt close to bed time, etc.. Good luck chief. |

The Pharms have a monopoly with their form of 'science', it's completely taken over the system (doctors, nurses, health visit, tv); monopolies are unhealthy. Mercola isn't at the stage where he can vaccinate millions of children against HIB and then profit from the diabetes that's been caused in X%. Or contaminate free UNICEF vaccines with HIV, send them to Africa, then profit from selling the African nations treatments for AIDS. Though I'm sure he does have to think about money too when deciding what to write about each day. |

Seems to be an overwhelming theme based around diet, you are what you eat!
After a few years of a number of symptoms I decided to do a cleanse, followed by a few weeks of fruit juice fasting. The improvement in health was immediate, the first few days of fasting was the hardest due to hunger pangs, after that you actually feel you have more energy and the mental clarity is amazing. I did a week of cleanse/fasting then introduced fruit juices to my diet before replacing my old diet with a much healthy diet consisting for quality fresh fruit and vegetables. I slacked and slowly returned to my old diet of processed junk and my health declined, I then decided to go vegan, but after a few bouts of flu I decided to eat mainly a vegan diet with the odd meal of chicken and fish, I have done this for the last 6 months and feel I have found the diet that works for me. So based on my own experience, I would say to do a cleanse and cut out all red meat and processed foods, no excuses. Hope this helps :o) |
Choker you need a herbal tea enema , it will take care of all health issues plus it feels great.
|
I have had GERD for a while, but lately it's been extreme. I had to quit smoking weed, and tomorrow I get a cam shoved down my throat to see damages.
|
Ive had heartburn (call it what it is) for 30 years. A bottle of Generic Tums for $2 every couple weeks unless you like paying for Doc Adams to go to the Bahamas.
Ditto to Cyberhustler. Have a Tums and try not to eat too much oil or too much period. Yes if you allow that acid to splash into the esophagus again and again it will chew you up. Tums man. I carry them in my pocket always. |
You dont have to take the drug. But it does work. more like in 12 hours than a couple of weeks. Unless the dose is really that low.
everyone here who has said its time to change diet is correct. It does not have to be a 100% change but you need to start eating other things to help. Papaya is really good and you might want to look into taking the papaya pills wich is the fruit in pill form. I hear it works and is natural. if your stomach starts to hurt. Pop some sort of mint into your mouth and that will solve the issue for a few hours. But thats a quick way to high sugar levels. |
Tums do not work for me for more than 10 minutes... The way its been lately I would have to eat them all day every day :(

Also someone (maybe you) was talking about taking Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar. I have also been taking that with tap water (good tap here) every morning for a couple years.
Seems to help with the acid reflux but def good for overall health and after a while you crave that vinegar taste more than pure water first thing in the day with your first meal. That and 1-2 grams of chewable C/day and an occasional chewable kids multi is all I take. I used to take a ton of vites. Ya need the C tho. |

Most digestive issues have to do with people eating too much shit food.
You probably eats lots of garbage, smoke cigarettes and drink plenty of coffee. |

Also..(odd one) make sure you arent eating Doritos. Free bag the other day at the store but all Doritos are FULL of MSG big time. And that WILL fuck you up. Really you should cook your own meats, potaotes, carbs yourself. No fast food or very little.
The big three carbs: Oatmeal (which i just stared getting into - GREAT 4 ya!) I cook it in the micro 4 servings at a time mostly with milk but you can use a combo of water of course. Potaotes. Get out the peeler. You can measure your health by how often you use the peeler. :) Brown rice. Mahatma is a good brand. Bread: No white. Except maybe in buns only. And cook all your meats, beef, chicken, fish from scratch. You should not get that much heartburn if you dont use too much oil or butter, Smart Balance ect. Veg. Fresh or frozen. Avoid iceberg lettuce. Takes too much dressing (for what it gives back in vites) plus it is like those mini carrots and Dole strawberries, geneticly modified to be crap now days. More expensive leaf lettuces are great tho. Of course you got to watch the dressings. Keep it basic. Cheapest foods are best for you if you dont mind cooking like a mad man every other day hehe :) A wife or GF helps there :) |
All that said, I just popped TWO tums (hit me hard suddenly) lol from that 12 grain (yeah right) bread, smart bal and honey sand I lazily made earlier :)
My friend (who knows it all) says Smart Balance is BAD for you and go with butter. Apparently it has some bad ingredient. He is not wrong usually. The HB I just got hit HARD with was def from the smart bal. That shit is pure heartburn but tastes so good and SEEMS ok. |

AND change your diet, fish, chicken and lots of vegetables. Change to herbal tea that's not shit in a packet. Go to store that specialise in good food. Fast foods = Poison. |
Similar situation and my doctor gave me Dexilant 60mg/day. Worked first day and afterwards.
|
GERD - the new ADD...
|
you guys really complicate the fuck out of things don't you?
more fruits, more vegetables the problem goes away, just about all of them.. you eat a diet of nothing but bacon and burgers, drink nothing but coffee, beer and cola and people are surprised that they get ill.. |
