Yes it is a great speech, and for sure something the kids of this generation need to hear. I got my degree almost a year ago. In my last semester one of my professors went off in class about that same exact thing.

George Carlin said basically this same thing in one of his routines. I think he got away with it cause he hid this truth in the overall comedy act. He used a lot of these exact quotes. I wonder if this guy got it from his act.

It is a great speech really. And very true.

I remember growing up as a kid wanting to think I was something special and that I was different. I was a member of the black trenchcoat mafia, died my hair black, and wanted to be a punk rocker without subscribing to anarchy. My father died when I was a baby and I was always searching for something, which I have not yet found.

I see this in my kid who is now 11. All of her friends are trying to distinguish themselves by their clothes, and by what seems to be a new trend called "dye dipping" where they dye a group of strands pink or purple or red (which ended up in a disaster the other day for us).

I tried to explain to kid that people get tattoos and piercings trying to make themselves different, when in the end the very best you can hope for a stable income, a roof over your head, and a family that loves you - And if your really lucky a hobby you enjoy. No matter how different you are, that's as good as it gets.
