After .xxx, here come .sex and .porn sites
Apologies if this is already posted, but didn't find it in the first 5 pages. I thought there would already be some heated discussions on this ...
After .xxx, here come .sex and .porn sites NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The .xxx Web domain was a controversial lightning rod -- both religious organizations and a porn industry trade group fought against it. Now, the company behind the adult-themed domain wants to launch .sex, .porn and .adult. ICM Registry, which brought .xxx to the world in December, wants to score three new racy suffixes in the upcoming expansion of the Internet's generic top-level domains (gTLDs) -- the ".com" part of website addresses. The full list of applicants, and their proposed new domains, will be announced on June 13. But the process doesn't end there: Several applicants will be battling for hot domains, which are slated to roll out sometime next year. ICM CEO Stuart Lawley doesn't want anyone to steal his inside corner in the world of online adult content. If another applicant emerges for .sex, he's prepared to slug it out. "We've been very careful and responsible in what we did with .xxx, and we don't want someone to take over what we've done as the incumbent," Lawley says. "We're trying to produce clearly identified content that doesn't confuse consumers." ICM took pains to develop a "best practices" model in its launch of .xxx, he says, including daily malware scanning of its 200,000 registered sites; a "no-tolerance" policy on illegal content like child pornography; and a trademark-dispute process. http://money.cnn.com/2012/06/11/tech...main/index.htm |
A total of 6 .xxx domains were registered yesterday. By the time .sex and .porn are approved, ICM Registry will be out of business :)

I thought the .xxx domain was interesting because it made it possible to registrate popular keywords as a TLD so I bought a few. ICM now thinks they can make the same easy profit from these new extensions but I'm sure that's not going to happen.
|
Good luck, think they are throwing good money after bad.
|
Seems like this will only make the .xxx even more worthless.
|
Fuck Lawley!
|
Something I noticed this weekend...
In Austin Powers Goldmember when they are showing all of the companies Dr. Evil owns, one of them is ICM. That got an audible chuckle from me and a question from my cousin about why I was laughing. |
Seems like Lawley thinks, it's a foregone conclusion ?

hmmm, interesting. As suggested above, doesn't this just make .xxx less valuable?
|
buhahahha., stupid people.
|
I'll be letting all my .xxx expire if I can't resell them.
I'm a .com guy. |
I bought 150 domains yesterday, none of them were .xxx
|
when will they learn..
|
They should set up .bullshit first so they can sell the rest from there.

nice try |
I think this just proves the .xxx was a bullshit operation, money making scheme from ICM after all.
|
interesting... but a lot of mess now...
|
Cool... What is next? :)

Old news. Posted about 2 months ago.

.xxx is a joke. Every registrar I know has already lowered its prices on .xxx domains. It's a clear sign no one wants to buy them.

I'm the proud owner of 0 .xxx domains :)
(lol, digitalfantasies, we posted in the same time) |
ICMR did make good money with their TM extortion scheme, but a big part of those registrations were a one time payment for 10 years. Other defensive registrations might bring in some renewals, but will it be enough? ICMR has spent A LOT of money on lawyers, adverts, bribes (fancy jobs, dinners and trips for ICANN execs),... to get dotxxx approved in the first place. They spent millions on TV commercials that failed to produce results. I would not be surprise dif they ran out of money. It has happened to other tlds before. Do you still see their paid shills like Dotxxx bot and Greg Dumbass post here? ICMR is a sinking ship.
|
I'm pretty sure ICANN has already said they won't institute TLDs that are similar to others. In this case, those would be too similar in purpose I think - not sure how ICM could make a case that .porn and .sex are necessary with .xxx around.
|
I own 0 .xxx domains!

Hey sounds good.. they are gonna slug it out with anyone who wants to take over the .sex TLD, with the money they won from everyone investing into .xxx mmm ;)

I bought ONE .xxx / wetlook.xxx
Never bothered to develop it - Stuck a hostedtube on it. OF ALL MY hostedtubes, it gets the WORST traffic of all. I wont be renewing. Could have got more from a .99 '.info' Learnt my lesson - Certainly wont waste time or money with this new generation - But I'm sure many newbies will... |
...this kind of makes the whole .xxx fight pretty useless and pointless, doesn't it?
|
haha these people rule
lets start with a 3 letter extension and when it fails lets add one with 4 letters and if that fails lets make it even longer and add 5 what a joke |

Didn't buy any .xxx domains.
It'll be interesting to see what % of non-defensive .xxx registrations actually get renewed. My guess would be about 30%. |

Only advantage of .xxx was to line ICM's and Lawley's pockets through defensive registrations.
Additional TLDs will make all other TLDs less valuable. The majors; .com, .net, .org will continue as before and most other new TLDs will be forgotten a short time after they're issued. .xxx is already a non-entity, expect them to sink from there. |
you can run but can't hide ... mode TLDs are on the way.
I registered redirect.xxx to make an app to protect handheld devices against xxx/adult but till now never had the time to develop it. The xxx guy I met during the shows is a nice guy and does his job. However I don't support his/their perspective. Maybe if they can help this lame/hurt industry back in its original stat they can get some credits ... |
