I've always been a dot com is king supporter, but thinking this over the next 5years or so will fundamentally change the internet.

Seems to me they want to categorize the internet by assigning all doctors to .doctor,
lawyers to .lawyer etc.
Already we have .gov that's pretty obvious.
It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Maybe for a while, but if there are 1000s of TLDs in a couple of years, of which many owned by big corporations such as google (so they have a big chance of actually being used .youtube .docs .facebook etc.) the new generation of internetters will be so used to all the different extensions they won't have any clue what .com is.
So .com will definitely use its value, maybe it will take 5 years, maybe 10, but in the end it will just be a random extension like all the other ones.

It is only a matter of time that this happens. There are only 26 letters in the alphabet.

This. Web pioneers are what made com king. Now folks will be spending a ton of money in branding others. A mail.google or vanityurl.fb could change everything.

.com value's will stay the same or increase, but any other tld will probably drop in value.

Just saw on the news. 2000 applications at $250,000 per application. sounds like a great money making scheme. Plus promotion will cost a lot.

Sell 25,000 @ $15 to cover the initial investment. Included more for the costs to apply, set up, etc.

I think if they did that in the beginning it could of worked. People now think .com and I dont think its going to change.
