What Does Coffee Do For You?

I've noticed lately that the more coffee I drink the less energy I seem to have. In my teens and twenties, drinking coffee seemed to give my body a burst of energy that lasted from cup to cup. Now, in my early thirties, coffee seems to suck the life out of me instead of providing any boost.

What does coffee do for you?

u-Bob 07-09-2012 07:31 AM

I stopped drinking it years ago.

CaptainHowdy 07-09-2012 07:32 AM

Still works for me :pimp ...

Spunky 07-09-2012 07:35 AM

It goes well with my morning smoke

slapass 07-09-2012 07:39 AM

You can get used to caffeine. Take a break and it will work again.

bronco67 07-09-2012 07:41 AM

I notice that if I have a cup of coffee later in the day, I feel like shit the next morning.

Coffee doesn't actually add energy to your system, it tricks your body into not knowing its tired.

I use to love waking up in the morning to have a smoke and coffee. I quit smoking for going on 2 years now and upped the coffee intake to compensate.

I'd need something to substitute. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs...I need something! :1orglaugh

It hides the small of the drugs I smuggle through customs....

Rochard 07-09-2012 07:46 AM

I never liked coffee. Always tasted like shit to me.

DWB 07-09-2012 07:47 AM

I'm not a big drinker, but I found (and read about it to confirm it) that lack of water in your system can make you tired when drinking coffee. So I always hydrate well before I drink any. And by hydrate, I drink about 1.5 liters in the morning before I do anything.

Red Bull + Cherry Pop Tarts = Winning

edelivery 07-09-2012 07:53 AM

1 - 2 cups per day.

Try tea to switch it up in the afternoon.

Cut out the sugar ;)

MediaGuy 07-09-2012 07:54 AM

I have to stop drinking coffee every now and then. Though it sparks you awake and ramps up your typing speed (I find) after a while you drink it just to get normal, and maintain "normal" - in other words you're burnt out without it....

After stopping for a few days though I come back to it from necessity ...

:D

CDSmith 07-09-2012 07:54 AM

It's difficult to put into words. Suffice it to say, that first sip in the morning = nirvanna.

Coffee is lifegiving. Wonderful.

Ahhh

SCORE Ralph 07-09-2012 07:57 AM

This started happening to me a few years ago. I started doing brand/brew-style switcharoos and drinking more water. For example, Ill go to starbucks for a few weeks on my way to work, then ill switch it up with some cuban coffee, then iced coffees (with extra shot), then some homebrew on my keurig. Seems to be working for me, hehe.

Coffee makes my stomach hurt. So I drink it.

I dont have anything with caffeine anymore.

OneHungLo 07-09-2012 08:01 AM

I use it to wash down my Adderall.

shake 07-09-2012 08:02 AM

It works for me, but I'm not getting a lot of sleep these days. I pull shots of espresso on my rancilio silva, and buy freshly roasted beans or roast them myself.

iSpyCams 07-09-2012 08:06 AM

Coffee starts the circulation in my brain in the morning.

I drink exactly one cup a day, but its a big cup with 4 shots of espresso in it. I never drink it later in the afternoon. Anything I accomplish that is meaningful in the day is accomplished in the 2-3 wonderful hours following that cup of coffee.

John-ACWM 07-09-2012 09:14 AM

From nothing to sleepy.

Scott McD 07-09-2012 09:16 AM

I've still never even had a coffee before. I don't like the smell of it so i've never bothered to try it...

Try shooting it in your veins.

rock-reed 07-09-2012 11:43 AM

The caffeine can make your body acidic where cancel cells can grow.

I feel lousy if I drink too much caffeine also... I know your pain!

Nicky 07-09-2012 11:54 AM

I drink maybe 1-2 cups a month. Irish Coffee that is :)

KingNigel 07-09-2012 11:55 AM

Acid reflux.

seeandsee 07-09-2012 12:32 PM

Coffe every day for 2 weeks, then 1 day i dont drink and i feel like junky without doze, so i dont drink it every day, its somekind of easy drug!

JosephFM 07-09-2012 12:35 PM

Coffe makes me go out and have a "smoke break".

Can't quit one without quitting the other.

That's what I thought too. I actually quit drinking coffee for the first two weeks of quitting smoking. After that I went back to drinking coffee without any smoking cravings.

It is bad for your heart. I avoid it.

SilentKnight 07-09-2012 03:50 PM

We recently bought one of those single-cup Kuerig brew machines...and have been trying dozens of different coffees.

Lately I'm diggin' two in particular - Revv and Jet Fuel. Ultra high caffeine (even the cafe we buy it from has a 'Not for Children' sign on it, lol).

I also like Rainforest Expresso extra bold.

I saw that advertised on TV and it looked like a suitcase full of different coffee options. That's not a bad idea and great way to mix things up. Thanks for the idea, I might just pick one up :thumbsup

Each time you have a coffee it makes you adrenal glands produce adrenalin, that's your 'coffee perk', the problem is if you have too many coffees in one day your adrenal glands can't cope, they burn out i.e. adrenal exhaustion

I was drinking 4 big mugs a day of coffee for years, but stopped cold turkey 2 weeks ago. It is driving me insane. I really really miss the taste of coffee.

I quit because I have trouble sleeping at night and thought it might be coffee, but its not the case.

+1 ... about 4 years ago my last cup ... :pimp

hony 07-09-2012 06:59 PM

Makes me feel awake for a short while in the morning and helps me get into the zone. But I've found it is mostly the SMELL not the actual drink. If I put a very strong smelling cup next to me and take just a sip it has 90% if not all of the impact without actually drinking it. Makes me sleep bad at night though.

ShoeBox 07-09-2012 07:02 PM

a Smoke and cup of coffee , just gives me the morning buzz to get me going.

LiveDose 07-09-2012 07:13 PM

I gave up coffee about 3 months ago after doing a 21 day juice cleanse. I have more energy now than ever.

Media_Guy 07-09-2012 07:50 PM

Gave it up years ago from my regular morning routine. Never felt better

nakeddutch 07-09-2012 08:29 PM

everything - drink espresso until you get that kick again...hehehe

Rmagnus 07-09-2012 08:40 PM

2 cups of coffee per day...one when i wake up (plus a cigarette) and the other during mid day...works well for me ;)

CurrentlySober 07-10-2012 03:57 AM

if i take my coffee via an enema, it causes disgust from the other customers in Starbucks.. :(

Danny B 07-10-2012 04:29 AM

2 strong cups in the morning to kick start my day accompanied by water and juice.
Works wonders for me.

No coffee close to bed time though.
I simply won't be able to fall asleep.

What does coffee do for you?

If you are putting sugar in your coffee, you may be getting that sugar crash. Does that to me in the morning, but if I drink coffee in late afternoon I light up like a christmas tree.

FoxtrotAlpha 07-10-2012 04:56 AM

Tastes good to me, doesn't really give me a noticeable boost in energy though unless I drink a few cups of it. Seems to work more than energy drinks though for me.

Black coffee = win.
