Republican Mitt Romney insists his No. 1 job is fixing the economy but a former Reagan administration anti-porn prosecutor says the candidate's campaign has assured him that he also will "vigorously" crack down on pornographers if he is elected president.

Patrick Trueman, a former head of the Justice Department's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and now the head of Morality in Media, told the conservative Daily Caller that he was quietly promised that fighting porn will be a top priority in a Romney White House.

Trueman said he and another anti-porn prosecutor from the 1980s Justice Department, Bob Flores, met earlier this year with Alex Wong, Romney's foreign and legal policy director..

?Wong assured us that Romney is very concerned with this, and that if he?s elected these laws will be enforced,? Trueman told the website. ?They promised to vigorously enforce federal adult obscenity laws.?

Around the time Trueman says he received those assurances, Romney signed Morality in Media's anti-porn pledge along with Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, whom he was still battling for the GOP nomination. Since then, he hasn't mentioned the issue very often.

Romney seemed to say the right words for Trueman in 2007, when he was campaigning for president in Iowa the last time. "We got to clean up the water that our kids are swimming in," he said in a TV ad. "And by that I mean the pornography, the drug culture, the violence, the sex, the perversion that bombards them day in and day out. So I want to make sure we enforce our obscenity laws."

Romney has promised that if elected president he would require every new computer be sold with a porn filter.

He made millions selling porn when he was involved with the Marriott Hotel chain. All republican candidates say they will go after it to please their base, but it likely doesn't matter the odds are stacked firmly against him winning.

and all these people dismissing obscenity prosecutions, when a republican is president there are always obscenity prosecutions, its a question of how many, not if there will be some, and who will it be. if you want to support romney and tell yourself "he'll never go after porn"- study your history. he's a religious mormon, enough said.

Both porn and greed are frowned upon by religion. If sticking to their religious beliefs wouldn't they also prosecute greedy people? A good example would be the head of a private equity company that borrows heavily to make insane profits. Oh wait...

im not here to argue the theoretical, i only spit the truth. under every republican president since reagan there have been obscenity prosecutions. its as simple as that. we are, and will always be, low political hanging fruit to the religious right.

I didn't say that he had no chance of winning. He has a chance and it is still four months away so a lot could happen, but when you look at the electoral college map he has a huge hill to climb and no room for error.

If he were to win I don't doubt that he would increase obscenity prosecutions, but he will have to walk the tight rope because if he wins it will solely on the promise of improving the economy and if he instead turns his attention to us and not jobs, people will be pissed.

with the american public, its not that high of a hill to climb. yes he leads a lot by the electoral map, because he holds a slim lead in most of those swing states. that slim lead could disappear across the board over a matter of a single mistake. his chances are 33% right now, 1 mistake and it could flip to the other way, like his speaking gaffe on "you didn't build that." people are sheep - they can be persuaded, especially when their wallets are empty. notice we're not talking about romney and any of his policies, the heat is on obama with the market like this, not romney. neither of them can make a mistake.

That is true. One big gaff either way could swing things. This is why I think Romney will not release his tax returns. I have a feeling there is something in there that would be difficult to explain and could hard him so he would rather deal with the fallout of now showing them. If he does show them and there is something major there it could be a nail in his coffin, but if he gets past this issue and the economy continues to struggle he could have a shot.
