if you were familiar with online payment processors, you may should know that they force you to change your password periodically...
|
I have a system for Paxum - Something similar to mine would be Name:yearofbirth so all I have to remember is for example "Neil Armstrong" and then its easy to remember the person and get the year if you cant remember.
That's not exactly what I use but a similar idea. |
|
I use a simple (TRUE) sentence with capital letters and grammar to tick all the requirements. For example
"When I was 5, I had a Dog called Patch" Becomes: "WIw5,IhaDcP" Not a dictionary word, contains both Capital and non capital letters and also a number and 'special characters' (The punctuation) Easy to remember and ticks all the boxes :) |
i hope not :( .... huhuhu

Also, just get 1password. :) |
I have paxum account but don't really use it. Why would I when there is wire!? :D

However, if I wanted to use it for everything I would add the initials at the start and end - So: NameCheap? NC"WIw5,IhaDcP"NC PhatServers? PS"WIw5,IhaDcP"PS Gmail? G"WIw5,IhaDcP"G etc... But 1pass is good too :) |

Hey lucas,
On a regular basis (approximately every three months (or thereabouts) our system will prompt clients to change their password. This is in place for security purposes, and usually only takes a few moments of your time to update. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thanks :thumbsup |
Whats more annoying is when you it asks you to change your password and you proceed to it then says "Password does not match on file" over and over again when it is the password on file. sigh

All that complicated password stuff is mostly useless for sites that has a password recovery feature that utilizes "security questions" - ie. what was your first school? what is your favorite mascot? what is your mother's middle name? etc ...
One's password security is only as good as the weakest link - I find it comical how many sites enforce all sorts of complicated, strict password restrictions and then allow simple one word responses to the security recovery questions that can be easily found / guessed. |
|
dood, get keepass - it manages well all these crazy passwords, back it up on your mobile and somewhere like dropbox. i think you can even make use single keepass db file from dropbox on many devices
there's no excuse using weak, short, non-unique passwords, especially with your finances |

The security questions used by Paxum for password security do not work in the way you describe. Providing the correct security question answer does not immediately provide a new password, a correct security question answer simply authorizes an email notification to be issued that contains a unique code that must be retrieved from the sent email and used to change the password. Clients who have a complicated password for Paxum and also have a complicated password for their email, are at a much lower risk to be abused by hackers. If you have never tried to change your Paxum account password, I'd like to suggest you give it a try and see the full procedure before judging our security system as pointless. |
