Coming Up With A Brand Name - Stuck!

Evening members,

I hope I can get some input here, I've spent the last 6 hours trying to come up with a .com brand name and I haven't got far at all.

So the question is, what do you do when you are wanting to come up with a brand name?

The idea is to start an online shopping site - selling various items (not limited to specific products).

Any input will really be appreciated :thumbsup

I usually look through the 500+ domains I usually own and most times find something that works, if not then I hit up my domainer friends and put a call out to see what they have, if those both fail then I brainstorm.

Good input, thank you.

I've been at this for 6 hours already, so maybe a few drinks is a good idea.

I liked superfly.com the most, but taken. It could literally be anything such as:

makro.com
superstore.com

etc etc

I'd have the word sell or buy in the domain name if possible

Absolutely anything and eveything, something like Amazon - so the name can be a brand as I hope to mould it into something over time.

I read the yellow pages looking at other company names.

As unorthodox as it sounds - its actually good advice. Better yet, get a bunch of buddies together over beers and toss ideas around.

We came up with two of our domain names over (more than a few) drinks years ago.

Thank you for all the suggestions, please keep them coming!

Hopefully I manage to finalise this soon

I bought shop-blogs.com a couple of days ago for the same thing for a dollar. Figuring out something that can be branded as well as decent SE results can be hard.. :upsidedow

Good luck!

LiveDose 08-27-2012 07:33 AM

How about sweetdealz.com?

Good luck.

96ukssob 08-27-2012 08:32 AM

It's going to be hard to find a domain that will fit for you as almost ever variation of a normal word is taken by some squatter.

When we chose ours, it was between three and the deciding factor was who was going to sell. It's quite absurd how much people thinks domains are actually worth.

We own it but only got half way with developing it. It's an awesome name we just don't have time to finish it with everything else that we are stretched with.

Email me with a reasonable offer and let's make a deal.

it is easier to find a brandable domain in the aftermarket at http://BrandableName.com for example in the 5-Character category or in the Biz category.

angeleyes 08-27-2012 02:25 PM

Try thinking outside the box a bit... perhaps you can use a foreign language. The owner of Zappos.com is a millionaire. I only suggest this route because there are more non-english domains available. OR you could just make up a trendy word like zantango.com (I use to own this one 8 years ago and it served it's purpose well).

Penny24Seven 08-27-2012 02:31 PM

ebay sounds like a good one, half4uhalf4me where its all half off :)

G-Unit01 09-01-2012 09:13 AM

Bump!

I'm running out of hair to pull out over this domain! :helpme

Colmike9 09-01-2012 09:33 AM

Try having a look through urban slang type sites, I have a few good brandable domains doing that.

www.zombo.com is for sale and highly brandable.

SilentKnight 09-01-2012 05:37 PM

We struggled with one of our domain names for awhile - but after a few beers the lightbulb flickered on.

Our production company is Kastle Archives Productions Inc. - shortened to KAP Inc.

And since we specialize in BDSM/fetish - I came up with KAPtivity.com
