Those of You with Children

Do you believe in corporal punishment in the schools? In short, allowing them to spank your kid?

Nineteen states have laws that allow corporal punishment in public schools, according to the Center for Effective Discipline. Critics argue paddling does not stop bad behavior, while supporters say paddling teaches discipline and respect. StateImpact Florida education reporter Sarah Gonzalez outlines the debate.

Didn't work for me.
I got the paddle several times in school.
I still turned out like a fucking idiot. It took me until I was 30 to pull my head from my ass.

Tofu 09-11-2012 01:42 PM

No. Only I put hands on my kids.

Same, except it took until I was 38.

suesheboy 09-11-2012 01:43 PM

No. I was revisiting some of that shit in my head a few weeks ago when I was visiting my hometown and they now named a school after the asshole there who beat me as a kid.

Hit a little kid in elementary school with a paddle for not doing all his homework? Fuck Him

No, wrong for a lot of reasons.

NaughtyRob 09-11-2012 02:14 PM

No, definitely not. I didnt agree with it when I got it and don't agree with it as a parent.

AllAboutCams 09-11-2012 06:58 PM

No and this is horrible to think about the times when teachers shouted at me in school if anyone did that to my kid they would end up in hospital.

What gives teachers the write to shout at kids its not like i go to McDonalds and people shout at me bunch of stupid cunts the lot of them

Mutt 09-11-2012 07:07 PM

wow, what a bunch of pussies. i got the strap a bunch of times in elementary school, kicked in the ass hard and in junior high a crazy old coot History teacher picked up my desk with me in it and turned it upside down and dropped me. not like in any of those situations I was in any physical danger tho i supposed I could have hit my head on the last one.

i don't think it helps but i don't see the harm in it - if a kid is being bad then he deserves a physical reminder from an adult. my mom would wail on me with a wooden spoon or whatever else she picked up - what else was she going to do, tackle me and start throwing punches? if she said 'TIME OUT! GO TO YOUR ROOM AND DON'T COME OUT UNTIL DINNER!' - haha, not a chance i'm going anywhere. So she whacked me. Not once did I feel abused or have I looked back and felt I was abused. I never had bruises or welts from anything.

Any type of spanking, yelling at or hitting kids whether your the parent or stranger has HUGE negative effects on them later on in life.

It has ALSO HUGE NEGATIVE EFFECTS to don't do anything and don't put any limits on them, like 95% of modern PARENTS do, thanks to the shitty shrinks of the modern era that installed that idea about no putting limits to KIDS, which is a HUGE MISTAKE...

Either hitting your kid or not putting limits on them at all, ARE BOTH HUGE MISTAKE and BOTH will destroy your kid later in life...

OVER-PROTECTING your kid is as SEVERE as abandoning him...

PIRIOD.

Bladewire 09-11-2012 07:32 PM

No

Only twice I've had to spank my kid and it wasn't hard, only for shock value. I only trust myself to make that decision nobody else, especially some idiot in "authority" at a school.

rowan 09-11-2012 07:45 PM

I'm going to sit on the fence here and say... MAYBE. In moderation, for something serious, MAYBE. But not routinely, or for stupid little things, nor as an immediate anger response to something. We're all a bit too politically correct these days.

Adam_M 09-11-2012 08:25 PM

No.. If a teacher at school hit one of my kids I would hit them back, HARD!

pornsprite 09-11-2012 08:32 PM

Damn I am proud of this group today.

Va2k 09-11-2012 10:10 PM

Hell no they did that shit to me when i was going to school and a few times i didn't even do what i got into trouble for. I do believe in spanking your kids and grounding them until a certain age though. I am raising both of my boys since they were in diapers they are now 13 and 16 and both are great boy's i am lucky on this part since i raised them by myself.

garce 09-11-2012 10:19 PM

We got "sent to the Principal's office" for discipline when I went to school.

If any of these overpaid and underqualified cocksuckers laid a hand on my kids, they'd have a hard time breathing next time I saw them. Or they'd be in jail.

SmutHammer 09-11-2012 10:26 PM

A man in my home town was arrested. His son was paddled by a teacher at school, The man went to the school and assaulted the teacher "I don't blame him" I'd be damned if an adult touched my kid. I think it was shortly after that schools stopped paddling children in Pa.

No Fucking Way. :2 cents:
I would never spank my kid myself neither.
Hitting a kid is admitting that you suck at parenting.

The Sultan Of Smut 09-11-2012 10:54 PM

Na physical punishment won't adjust behaviour in any way and moreover ends up being a badge of excellence for some kids.

The only way is to segregate the disruptive kids. Move them to another part of the room at first, then into their own room. Now there will be a lot of boooos thrown at me I'm sure but fuck it if parents can't teach any discipline then their asshole kids should not be allowed to negatively impact the education of other kids.

Social isolation has a huge effect at any age and there is actually a positive aspect to it:

Hands off my offspring

Paul Markham 09-12-2012 12:46 AM

They should pass the information of the wrong doer to the parents.

Ultimate punishment should be to expel the child. Even to the point of him not getting an education. School is a society, fit in or fuck off.

A bigger question is why are children so unruly today?

Mutt 09-12-2012 01:21 AM

wow, how the world has changed. very sad. these are your childrens' teachers - they spend more time with your kid than you do per day. my parents trusted that teachers were good people with kids best interest at heart, they went into teaching for a reason. my mother went to parent/teachers day, so she at least knew my teachers. and she knew the school principal and he did ask her and i assume he asked other parents of unruly kids if it was ok to give them the strap. My mother gave him permission, she trusted that he knew what he was doing and if he was going to give me the strap then I had really done something bad.

i understand why todays' parents feel differently, neighborhoods are transient, there's not much connection to your neighbors and school. my neighbors up and down the street were like second parents almost, if you were fighting or crying in front of their house they'd come out and yell at you or hug you and take u home or call your mother to relay what was going on.

v4 media 09-12-2012 01:40 AM

Not sure.

Some kids are real cunts, the parents dont give a shit so the kids do what they want and are impossible to teach. The only punishment is suspension.. great extra days off.

When I was at school you still got hit, but the teachers that were bastards about it and seemed to enjoy it, in the end got a thump from some kid.

DamageX 09-12-2012 01:46 AM

I don't spank my kids. If anyone else would, I'd rip their head off and shit down their neck.

Mr Pheer 09-12-2012 05:04 AM

Make them exercise until they puke.

Shotsie 09-12-2012 05:27 AM

In my school the students beat the teachers, not the other way around.

So quarantine these kids by throwing them out of school. Or let the good kids and teachers suffer?

SKUP 09-12-2012 05:30 AM

As far as I know, nobody ever touched my kid. That probably kept me out of jail

spazlabz 09-12-2012 05:38 AM

I spanked my boys... not often and certainly not excessively and only to re-enforce that something they had done was not in their best interest. However, I am somewhat protective of my children (now 22 and 16) and if another adult ever tried to raise a hand (or paddle) to one of my boys there would be hell to pay. Luckily none of the school districts my sons attended ever had a policy of corporal punishment

This thread is filled with evidence to support your statement.

American parents these days are shitty and quick to jump on anybody else who even mentions that their kid is out of line let alone anybody who takes a strap to them.

As Mutt said, the teachers most likely spend more time with our children than most of us do. Since society has proven that they don't give a shit about properly disciplining their kids then we can only expect them to act out more often.

Mutt is 100% right. Most of you are a bunch of pussies.

spazlabz 09-12-2012 10:49 AM

a teaching degree does not earn my trust. The thread starter was asking about our own kids, I'll reserve judgement on other parents but my wife and I disciplined our kids on our own and do not need or desire the schools to fill any of our parental duties.

They can discipline them in appropriate ways that do not require physical contact between this stranger and my child and let me know how my child acted out and allow me to take any further actions I deem appropriate. My kids acted out in school a couple of times and I took care of it. Now I get comments that my kids are model students.

GAMEFINEST 09-12-2012 10:54 AM

These "strangers" you speak of. Do you mean the teachers who spend 6+ hours a day with your kids and probably know their behavior patterns better than you? Or the parents who come home after 5pm and allow their kids to play violent video games half the evening with little to no interaction? Just curious.
