McAfee SiteAdvisor now rating all sites hosted by techiemedia as security risk.

I have numerous sites hosted by techiemedia.
I noticed the other day that McAfee SiteAdvisor starting blocking all my sites with their dangerous site warning.
I found this very unusual since I use no phishing or browser exploits.
Even my dormant domains with no active website were being blocked with their dangerous site warning.
I later found that McAfee was also giving the same warning on the techiemedia.com and techiemedia.net websites
Later investigation revealed that other sites hosted on other techiemedia webservers were all getting the same warning.
I have told techiemedia about the problem and they have contacted McAfee and McAfee has removed the warning on the techiemedia website.
However, the warning still continues on the websites hosted by techiemedia.

If your site is hosted by techiemedia I suggest you check your sites with McAfee SiteAdvisor Browser add-on to see if you get warning.
You must have the SiteAdvisor Browser add-on installed to see the warning
You can download it for free at http://www.siteadvisor.com

Please post on this thread if you get the dangerous site warning.

If you get the warning you need to contact McAfee and complain and ask them to remove it at.
http://www.siteadvisor.com/userfeedback.html

I also suggest you complain to techiemedia support about it.

I have started sending review requests to McAfee and they are removing the warnings site by site but it is a lot of hassle doing so.

McAfee SiteAdvisor is included with McAfee Anti-Virus products and is widely used.
Rating a site as dangerous simply because it is hosted by a particular webhost is a lot of BS and results in lost surfers and revenue.

If enough people complain about it to both McAfee and Techiemedia hopefully they will fix this problem and it won't happen again.

hmm... indeed... now that sucks

Wizzo 09-12-2012 12:43 PM

Yeah, that could be a problem.

Fuck, all of mine as well. I just emailed Jim to find out what is being done to fix this issue.

I'm on techiemedia, tested a few of my doms...

mainstream #1 - "We tested this site and didn't find any significant problems." (green tick)

adult #1 - same all clear, although the graph shows it links to a red site (no specific warning about mine)

adult #2 - all clear

adult #3 - all clear

Hmm. Sorry to be different.

I'm in the [208.90.152.0 - 208.90.155.255] and [199.80.56.0 - 199.80.63.255] IP ranges. I don't know if Techie has others, perhaps the McAfee ban was done by IP range?

anyone else?

yes

looks like one of my servers is clean, the other one not

the one which is not, is not in the ip range of Techiemedia that McAfee has whitelisted

i emailed with Techiemedia about this and with McAfee. both are looking into it and i hope it gets fixed soon

BTW, you don't need to install the toolbar/addon, just load this URL and change the domain as appropriate.

Unfortunately, you do need to install the toolbar/addon. All of my sites were showing as clean/green in siteadvisor.com but were still being blocked by the browser addon.

We're you successful with the site owner verification to leave them a comment?

Wow that is bad and horrible that McAfee would pull this. Super shady to blacklist a hole network for any reason.

Check on your site(s) that was blacklisted. All of mine went from red to green. I see that one of yours went from red to yellow.

Mutt 09-18-2012 10:44 AM

my techiemedia site is green but looking at SiteAdvisor - there's a section called 'Annoyances' - it's got 'Third Party Cookies' belonging to the domain of a well known review site - how would that get on my site?

hm...

all my sites on that server went to green, but not for my shop

i wonder what they mean by "suspicious behavior" - there should be nothing suspicious going on there

Is it really on your site or is it a false positive? If your site is clean, do the site verification but don't leave any comments yet and open a support ticket with McAfee.
