http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/enha...49732063-2.jpg

Thirty two year old Edward "Barry" Archbold competed in a bug eating contest in last weekend's Midnight Madness. He managed to ingest 30 cockroaches, 30 worms And 100 millipedes. But something went wrong, he had reportedly collapsed and had been left unattended before he received medical attention. He didn't reach the hospital alive. Doctors pronounced him dead. He could've won a python.

Last October 5, Ben Siegel Reptiles hosted an event known as "Midnight Madness" at 3314 W. Hillsboro blvd, Deerfield Beach. The event was more like a fair where there's a a sidewalk sale, giveaways, live auctions, and free food. They also had a contest where people eat "bugs for balls". The guy or gal that eats the most bugs in 4 minutes without vomiting will win one of four ball pythons including.

The bugs they had to eat were a female Graphite sire Ivory (Discoid roaches), female Orange Belly(Hornworms), Female Pastel (Superworms) or a Male Lesser(crickets). "Bugs for Balls contest" qualifying begins at 7PM and Danny from Urban Jungles Radio will be broadcasting live starting 8pm.

People from the bug eating community where questioning whether the death could have been prevented. The incident is currently undergoing an investigation.

We could only hope that if the bugs didn't get him, the 1st prize python would eventually choke him to death.

And a Florida cockroach at that. For any that have never had the pleasure they are big gross and can fly.

Sadly, I have probably taken down, close to 10 bugs on the Golf Course this year. In one hole, and out the other.

In one of the comments, it was speculated that millipedes contain trace amount of cyanide. Maybe that's one reason he succumbed to. Blech!

This happened in Florida. We are not surprised and do not consider it at all unusual. Just another day in Margaritaville.
