Asus are surprisingly durable! I bought them for my daughters last Christmas, as I figured they would destroy whatever bought so I wanted cheap but they have held up well.

So about 6months ago when I needed a new one, got one of their nicer ones(still cheap compared to others) and have no complaints. :thumbsup

Panasonic tough book.

BradBreakfast 10-12-2012 01:26 PM

Whatever you buy, check the screen resolution carefully. Get a high resolution 15" screen.... none of that 768 bullshit laptop makers are still trying to push.

Google for Lenovo Outlet... buy one with an i7 and high res screen. Some of them come with small hard disks, and low RAM. Good. You'll want to dump the hard disk anyways and buy a sandforce SSD off slickdeals.net and upgrade the RAM to as much as you can afford and that the laptop will take. Max it out if you can.

DELL. Period.

Dell i7's are the way to go.

Markul 10-12-2012 02:02 PM

The best laptops I've had, have always been Lenovo's.

I love my macbook and my panasonic toughbook, but if you're looking for a cheaper machine I know a lot of people who have good luck with Asus - cheap and long lasting.

SpicyM 10-12-2012 05:08 PM

Stay away from Asus, MSI, Acer and other cheap shitty brads.

Cant go wrong with Toshiba or Lenovo. I also hear only good things about Dell and HP.

13" MBP with 8GB RAM, 2.7GHz Intel i7 proc. and OWC Mercury Extreme 480GB SSD

Once you experience 8GB RAM and a Mercury Extreme SSD in a laptop, you will never settle for less again :winkwink:

The Sony Vaios are pretty nice. If you email me your budget, I'll help you pick a good one Chris! Lots of useability considerations.

Asus isn't a cheap shitty brand. I'd put Dell and HP in the cheap shitty brands though.

16 GB in the 2.5 Ghz I7 15" macbook and Vertex 4 SsD high IO...drive does 0 IO as it died.. Preordered the Samsung 840 Pro SSD... Using the new MacBook Air in the meantime..

Both highly recommended... If you work from the laptop a lot get the Pro if not get the Air an hook it up to a Mac Cinema Display

The 13" air seems to way the same as the new iPad

sandman! 10-13-2012 01:11 AM

If you're a fag and want to spend more money than you actually have to then go with a Mac.

Compared to Toshiba, Dell, HP and other top brands, they are cheap. The cheapest brands sold here are Asus, MSI, Acer and Fujitsu-Siemens. I would never touch anything with Asus branding on it anymore.

They made good motherboards like 15 years ago, but these days its just crap. Same for MSI. They used to be top brands back then, but went to shit when hardware got cheap and competition increased.

Following Square Trade's laptop three year reliability survey: Asus and Toshiba had least failures (followed by Sony and Apple) and HP had the most failures at 25%.

Really depends on what you're looking for.

Cheapest gaming laptop with best specs would be a Sager/Clevo. Not the prettiest looking thing. Alienware has a cost premium. Asus isn't using the highest graphics card last I checked.

I know you can get a pretty nice IPS screen on some of the newer Sony laptops but apparently has some red-reproduction issues.

I'm waiting to see reviews on the new Asus Zenbook:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/29/a...onal-nvidia-g/

If you just want business-class sturdiness for traveling probably a Lenovo ThinkPad.

My dad's Asus notebook was the shittiest piece of computer hardware I have ever seen.

Glad he replaced it with Lenovo.

ASUS? NEVER.
